Al Franken kicks-off his new “mainstreaming” campaign

July 7th, 2009 – 8:04 AM

Sure enough: The weekend after finally winning his lawyer-infested Senate brawl, there was Al Franken snuggling and kissing a baby on the front page of Sunday’s Star Tribune. Instead of hanging out with entertainment industry types or vacationing with rich friends, Franken was in hot pursuit of blue collar “atta-boys!” and other warm fuzzies up on the Iron Range over the 4th of July.

In addition to playing “regular Joe,” Franken let us know that he’s preparing for a hum-drum entrance into the Senate. According to the Star Tribune,

in Franken’s first months in the Senate, battles over weighty national issues may take a back seat to the more parochial matters of constituent service.

Advisers such as Drew Littman, who organized [Hillary] Clinton’s Senate office, have counseled Franken to focus on Minnesota issues and the details of policy.

‘It’s tempting in the Senate to see it as a place where you can work on any national issue,’ said Littman, Franken’s new chief of staff. ‘He’s going to dig in on the local stuff.’

So what’s the deal? Is this a new, gentlemanly Al Franken who no longer believes that Republicans should be locked up in re-education camps?

Not at all. This past weekend, we saw Franken’s campaign to “mainstream” himself swing into high gear.

It’s a two-step plan.

In Step One, Franken shoots for news reports that include only vague, general reminders of his pre-Senate life. This is the “forget-the-former-Franken” part of the campaign.

News reports – like the Sunday Star Tribune article – may acknowledge that our new senator was occasionally a “bit too edgy” in the past. But gone is any reminder of Franken’s ugly public disdain for Christians, or any question regarding whether a soft-core pornographic “satirist” is a suitable member of our nation’s most august deliberative body.

Step Two of the campaign is the reinventing of Franken as a serious, “nose to the grindstone” public servant. Say hello to our baby-cuddling, State-Fair-attending, blue-collar-buddy, constituent-service-focused new man in Washington.

Are we going to get this vanilla version of Franken as our senator? Don’t count on it. Once the transition period is over, he’ll have plenty of opportunities for a repeat performance of his class-clown shtick.

Next time, though, his playground won’t be Saturday Night Live. It will be the United States Senate, where he’ll be casting critical votes on America’s health care, the national economy, and the ever-present threats that loom in a very dangerous world.

Perhaps we should hope for something better instead of predicting goof-ball chaos.

Maybe he’ll end up being sincere?

The world has always been full of danger.

The impending doom culture of distrust towards anyone who differs from American opinion is getting old .. and more importantly, not a great tool towards a less hostile environment.

Bill O’Reilly called Dr. Tiller “Tiller the Baby Killer” on 28 different shows before someone killed him. Does that count as extremist rhetoric?

How is that extremist rhetoric. Millions of American’s believe abortion is nothing more than “baby killing”, myself included. Disagreeing with a person on abortion issues, regardless of how vehemently, and going out and shooting that person are two very different things. But I guess in your world making fun of a person is pretty much the same as putting a hit on them. Well, when it’s a Republican talking at least.

You know, when the campaign was going on and there was that huge flap about the humor piece in Playboy, I found it online somewhere and read it to see what the fuss was all about. It was a fanciful fictional narration of a tour of some lab where they were developing virtual sex technology. Mostly it was stupid and not that funny. Not as good as his SNL material really. But there was one awesome joke in it. When asked what sort of virtual sex he’d like to experience, Franken’s answer was,
“well, I’ve been married 25 years, so I’d like a [fellatio]”
Laughed out loud at that.
Then I got a little sad.

Kate Kersten needs to accept the facts that (a) “Christianity” does not govern this country and (b) Al Franken won the election, has more education than she will ever have, and is now the senator from the great state of Minnesota for the next six years. So get over your sniping and move on to your other anti-Christian targets.

That’s right. And if we the people don’t like the way he casts those votes, he won’t get re-elected. Kinda like his predecessor.

I guess I choose to see this as Franken didn’t earn my vote during his campaign, but he won (barely) anyway and now he has a chance to earn my vote in another six years. He’ll have to do something substantive in his service to do that. I don’t realy share Katherine’s misgivings though.

StarFleckle, I expect Katherine probably has more education than Franken in terms of degrees etc. That part of your assertion is likely wrong. Honorary degrees Frankem may have picked up for giving commencement speeches or whatever don’t count, either. Just like ketchup ain’t a vegetable in school lunches.

But the Constitution doesn’t specify a minimum level of education to serve as Senator so what’s the point really?

I don’t hold his comedian job against him (even if I didn’t find him funny). Rather, because so many comedians have to be pretty quick and smart, I am curious as to how he’ll do. He can’t be any less of an embarrassment than Wellstone was or Tim Pawlenty is.

bdaniel367 says:

Dubble_A, you bring up a great point about one of the benefits and dangers of our democracy. We don’t have an education requirement, so anyone can be elected, regardless of their intelligence/common sense/ability to communicate. While I may not agree with Obama on many points, I appreciate that he is articulate and able to think/put together a coherent sentence. After eight years of idiocy and Sarah Palin in the election, I’m glad we have the potential to seem more educated as a nation.

But I am curious about Kersten’s education credentials. What are they, Katherine? Where did you go to college? Graduate school? Writing school?

dubble_a_ron says:

July 7th, 2009 at 11:49 am

Just checked. Franken has a BA from Harvard. Nice designer undergrad degree, but Katherine has a JD.

Perhaps by asserting that Franken is “more educated than [Katherine] ever will be” our new feckless friend is trying to suggect that Katherine’s perspective is one born of ignorance. To that I say, don’t underestimate her. Rather, I posit to you she is a highly educated person who attempts to achieve her political ends by manipulating the opionions of the ignorant.

I’ll tell you this, he’s not Wellstone. Sure, they were friends and all, might be aligned on their policy views but when Franken took his oath on Wellstone’s Bible I wonder if he reflected on how Wellstone won a clear majority with a brilliant low-overhead underdog grassroots campaign while Franken won a contestable squeaker in a media-saturating politics-as-usual campaign fueled by tons of money flowing in from outside the state.

That said, who is Al? What face will he show the nation on our behalf? I personally hope he is mostly polite but lets slip with a few insulting witty rejoinders in the midst of debate now and then. And I have no problem with him going on calling Rush Limbaugh a big fat idiot.

Hi, all,

Good questions, folks. Now let me remind you it was a nightmare, and I forgot to add that I do really hope I’m wrong.

“The Man Who Claims To Be President”

I have it on authority I trust that Obama’s birth record in Hawaii is sealed, that a grandmother claims to have witnessed his birth in Kenya, and that he has never proven that he is a natural-born American citizen legally entitled to hold the office.

What the heck is the “NSUSA?”

National Sóciàlist United States of America.

The comparison to Hitler is intentional. I have read Mein Kampf twice, biographies of Hitler by John Toland, Robert G. L. Waite, Alan Bullock, and August Kubizek (Hitler Mein Jugenfreund). Also Speer’s books, Goebbels’ diaries, and Shirer’s Rise and Fall of the Third Reich twice.

The two men look and sound the same to me. Again, I hope I am wrong, but I’m afraid I’m right. Just like in 1961, when a friend of mine and I in our senor year of high school, predicted that if we fought a conventional war in Vietnam we were going to have our butts handed to us on a platter.

I dont think it does. You have to born in the US form my understanding.

I checked this out on Wikipedia (which for this purpose should suffice). Apparently you are a U.S. citizen if only one of your parents is a citizen, no matter where you are born — but only if you were born on or after November 14, 1986. For dates prior to that, both parents would need to be citizens if you were born outside of the United States.

But they cant be President.

Debatable. Again from Wikipedia:

The term “natural born Citizen” has never been defined by the Courts in the course of a Presidential qualification challenge. It is believed by some that this provision means that only persons born on U.S. soil to two U.S. citizens are “natural born Citizens” of the nation and eligible to become President. There are others who believe that anyone who acquires citizenship by any means other than naturalization is a “natural born Citizen” and eligible for the Presidency. In between these extremes lie gray areas, some controversy, and various obiter dicta from the courts. A majority of commentators today argue that the Presidential Eligibility clause incorporates both common-law (jus soli) and English statutory (jus sanguinis) principles.

I believe that Obama’s father was never a U.S. citizen. So if “natural born Citizen” does indeed mean that one must be born on U.S. soil to two citizen parents, we could have an issue. But since “natural born Citizen” has never been defined, and is in fact a subject of considerable debate, we’ll probably never know.

Let’s ask the Constitution:

“No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States. “

So I guess it comes down to interpretation. Does “natural born citizen” mean you have to be born ON American soil, or merely be born to an American citizen (rather than attaining citizenship by oath later on)?
Or does it mean test tube babies can’t be President?
The nutty theory that FC has bought into is that Obama wasn’t born on American soil and that means he isn’t a natural-born citizen. The version of the theory that I’ve heard has him born in Indonesia not Kenya. Some nutters have been trying to sue to contest the election but I think their main goal is simply to cast aspersions on the Presidents’ legitimacy. The gambit seems to have worked in FC’s case. But reading the Constitution just now I’m not so sure they’d have a leg to stand on even if they were right about Obama not being born in the country. What does “natural born” mean exactly?

Wikipedia isnt a source for any purpose.

You just like to be an argumentative know-it-all. You’re starting to sound like MOI.

I thought the Wiki article gave a pretty good summary of the issue. Although your 3:04 p.m. post was a better source for a definition of “citizen,” it lacks a discussion of the concept of “natural born citizen,” which is germane to the discussion of qualifications for the presidency of the United States.

“Designer degree” implies he didn’t work or just showed up and got a piece of paper”.

I don’t know where you got this implication from. I was more poking at the perceived qualitative distinction between the esoteric and the generic. The expensive vs. the inexpensive. The exclusive versus the hoi polloi. Calvin Klein Jeans vs. Wrangler. Capiche?

Graduating cum laude is a good accomplishment though to be sure. He musta cracked a couple books.

Wikipedia articles are not a good source, but you can look for good sources within them. The good articles are written like scholarly papers with number footnotes.

I heard a story on NPR once where some think tank compared Wikipedia to Encyclopedia Brittanica and found them to have about the same frequency of inaccuracy in their articles.

He was born in the US. Thats all thats relevant. The other people can scream and cry all they want it doesnt make it relevant in the least. There is nothing in the law about parents citizenship having anything to do with it whether it be one or two. It also isnt in the constitution that your parents need to be citizens either.

If he was born over seas there would be some more enterpretation of what “natural born” means and what his parents citizenship was. In this case his being born here ends the argument in its tracks.

MOI would actually have been useful in this citizenship debate. I bet he could quote chapter and verse on when it has come up and been ruled on in the courts.

Does “natural born” mean something specific in English Common Law? For example, the Constitution mentions “due process” a couple times without defining it. If you know some Common law you know what the authors mean when they use the term. Maybe “natural born” is like that too. Some standard for citizenship from Jolly ol’ England maybe.

Evil Baby Fauvel says:

July 7th, 2009 at 3:47 pm

He was born in the US. Thats all thats relevant.

Except that some people, despite all the proof, still think he was born overseas. Then the concept of “natural born citizen” becomes more relevant.

The whole point of my getting into this discussion was to try to point out that even if Obama had not been born in the United States, he would still be a “natural born citizen.” But then I discovered that there is some controversy about the concept of “natural born citizen,” which is what I’ve been writing about since.

There is nothing in the law about parents citizenship having anything to do with it whether it be one or two.

True for citizenship. But we’re not talking about mere citizenship. We’re talking about qualifications necessary for being the President of the United States.

If he was born over seas there would be some more enterpretation of what “natural born” means and what his parents citizenship was. In this case his being born here ends the argument in its tracks.

Until you get the D2s of the world involved. Then you have to try to convince them that even if Obama had been born overseas, he would still meet the qualifications for the office of the presidency.

The whole point, Mark, was that I was trying to refute the claims of Obama’s ineligibility for the presidency even were he not born on U.S. soil. Get it now?

I have a friend who’s mother broke her leg in a car accident. As she was mostly confined to the house over the next couple months, she noticed that squirrels kept stealing all her feed from her bird feeders. So what if Franken reverts to form and cracks some jokes on the Senate floor? After all the prurient material that got read into the Congressional record during the Clinton impeachment I don’t think he would exactly be sullying a dignified institution.

He’s already had a little practice with indecorous gaucherie, but he did have the grace to show contrition in his Harvard Class Day Address in 2002: “. . . I was, ironically, the Ivy Orator twenty-nine years ago. And I’m afraid I used the “f” word quite a few times in my speech. It was 1973. And a couple weeks later I received a note through the class marshal’s office from an outraged parent, saying, “We came to watch you graduate from college, not from kindergarten.” I’ve always felt kinda bad about that, and I was hoping to be invited back so that I could apologize.”

I am happy Franken won, but only for two reasons. 1) He won by fraud. 2) He had to win in order for Norm to lose.

Franken’s and Coleman’s vote totals fell well within the margin of Democrat fraud. Democrats cheat. So do Republicans, but less. I am not opposed to this. It detracts from any pretenses about a fair election process, and adds to the number of cynics and disdainers among the populace. It is also semi-marginalizing of the politician involved and limits their ability to lead and command respect (see Bush).

Norm had a commanding lead in the polls. Feeling safe, he voted for the bailout for the rich. Many of whom were big contributors to both the Dems and the Republicans. That massive tranfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich finished Norm as US senator. Polls showed people 10 to 1 against the scheme, but sneaky Norm rolled the dice. He voted for it. He thought he was invulnerable. It cost him his senate seat. Good riddance.

Any US Senator who re-finances his own home 12 times in 14 years, has no place trying to participate in the management of the budget of any government entity, either local, state or federal.

Minnesotan’s need to make sure Norm never returns to public life. It’s time for Norm to accept the harsh realities of life as a private citizen and resign himself to live out the rest of his life in obscurity.

Of course, congruent with my philosophy of willfully making government as inept and awful as possible, perhaps I should advocate for Norm the Weasal to become the next US president. Yeah, that’s it. Go Norm!

Depends on the shooter.

If you hike around small(black) bear, that is a good gun to carry for protection. Not for squirrels, but there may be shot loads for it, which might work…or might not. Okay for big raccoons, but not ideal. It can also shoot less powerful .44 special loads which might be better for self defense in the home. Full power magnum loads can shoot completely through a couple of houses. I would have no use for such a gun, but it’s a high quality piece.

Mr dare2, I can agree that Franken won by Democrat party cheating. Coleman likely had thousands of more votes than Franken, but not enough to fall outside of the margin of Democrat fraud. Democrats rarely lose elections that are that close anymore. They have established a fraud margin of victory, in most states. It’s nothing new (JFK in Illinois), but they are getting better and more sophisticated at it, and it is now widespread throughout the country.

It’s a part of the liberal Dem mindset. They believe themselves more deserving and that they are really what is best for the country. The end justifies the means, because they are the good guys.

You gotta love Kersten, who once wrote that “facts are stubborn things” but continually plays fast and loose with them.

Al Franken did indeed win a “lawyer-infested Senate brawl,” but Hairdo conveniently ignores that the contest was more importantly prolonged by several months by his opponent and would have still been a “lawyer-infested Senate brawl” if Coleman had prevailed.

It’s hilarious that Kersten tries to poke fun at Franken for having rich friends when Normie has many himself and is still being investigated for gifts and campaign contributions he accepted from Nasser Kazeminy

By accusing Franken (whose wife, Franni, is a Catholic) of showing “public distain for Christians,” Kersten shows that she is still averse to doing research and incapable of understanding satire.

But the crown jewel has to be the airbrushed hack’s portrayal of Franken as a “class clown” since there is no way Franken could ever top Coleman’s unintentionally clownish performance as chair of the Permanent Subcommitte on Investigations. While lap-doggishly ignoring the crimes and misdeeds of the Bush administration, chairman Norm tried to implicate George Galloway in the alleged abuses by the UN’s Oil for Food program and was bitch-slapped so hard his capped teeth needed to be reattached.

Now do you really think Tiny is going to keep his current Heathcare Insurance that costs him 250 a month?

Second are these b@stards going to put an income restriction on this so it just turns into another welfare program?

If the millions of uninsured people all got health insurance for $65 a month, that might just pay the tab for all the medical services they currently consume that we the insured indirectly pay for.

Anyone know how many unisured people there are?

“If the millions of uninsured people all got health insurance for $65 a month, that might just pay the tab for all the medical services they currently consume that we the insured indirectly pay for.”

And .. it might create competition.

To Tiny’s point - why would you pay 250 when you can pay 65?

Initially, maybe there should be a pro-rated premium, but based on the potential that should create a better market since the pool is growing.

dubble_a_ron says:

July 8th, 2009 at 9:49 am

For sure it would create competition between the govt and private insurers.

What may give the poor competed-with private insurers some relief is that the govt insurance plan will also exert downward pressure on the price health care providers can charge for their services and expect insurers to reimburse them for.

Which might be bad for the health care providers, but again I come back around to the uninsured. part of why the providers charge me so much for the service I get is that they are trying to recuperate the service to the unsired that they wind up eating the bill on.

But the whole shootin’ match will only work I think if everyone who currently doesn’t have insureance gets it, which would mean mandatory participation in some form of health insurance, no?

Greg63 says:

July 8th, 2009 at 10:19 am

“But the whole shootin’ match will only work I think if everyone who currently doesn’t have insureance gets it, which would mean mandatory participation in some form of health insurance, no? ”

I’m sure some actuary has the numbers and has crunched them .. for both sides.

I’d agree that you’d have to have a great majority in order for things to fall in place.

I doubt it could happen overnight and would venture to say it would take a minimum of 36 months just to find all the uninsured and/or underinsured .. which brings about another point.

dubble_a_ron says:

July 8th, 2009 at 10:32 am

And some of the most lowly among the uninsured are still going to say they can’t pay $65 a month. Some of them will be right.

I think there should be a prorated sliding scale kinda thing like you say.
That also would keep the current private insurers from going off a cliff and laying off all their workers in the face of impossible new competition.

Greg63 says:

July 8th, 2009 at 10:39 am

That’s how the swedes did it. The insurance companies are doing better then they ever had now.

Of course, the government made it mandatory that EVERYONE be insured and .. their are incentives for being ‘healthy’.

I agree with some but not all of what he proposes. Don’t much like his idea of having every state run their own insurance program funded by the federal govt.

Very good story in the Strib about the 52 year old Lutheran pastor who says he paid exotic dancer Bunny Annette Byington (age 46) money to dance for him and to have sex.

Bunny allegedly started extorting hush money from the pastor in exchange for keeping the scandal from wifey and the flock. The preacher paid up for awhile, then cut Bunny off.

When no more cash came her way, Bunny sang. She even provided a photo to the flock, of the pastor in his fruit of the looms. Not a smart move by Bunny. The slimey preacher called the fuzz. The police nabbed poor Bunny and charged her with extortion.

Now I don’t have a problem with any of Bunny’s attempts to earn a living. Men always pay for sex in one way or another. Women always extort money from men in one way or another also.

If Bunny had hired an attorney when the preacher cut her off, instead of trying to be a do-it-yourselfer, she would have likely gotten some loot from both the church and the pastor as a settlement. A slick lawyer would have portrayed Bunny as a victim.

Instead, she left the middle man out of the deal. Lawyers don’t like that. Now she might go to the slammer. Sad. They should just leave her alone.

Judging from Bunny’s pic she probably felt herself lucky to get any dough at all. The preacher only gave Bunny a few thousand. I think many would pay poor old Bunny to keep her clothes on, rather than take them off. Not a good looking woman.

I noticed Bunny was from Moorhead. She badly needs a marketing gimmick. How about, “Get more head from Bunny from Moorhead”.

The gimmick wouldn’t work on me. I couldn’t do Bunny. I’m always sober however. Could work on some guys after they had a few belts. I wish Bunny well.

I recommend gun training by all from an expert. Don’t learn as I did. Guns need to be taken very seriously as mistakes can easily happen, sometimes with irreversible consequences. I shot myself in the head as a youngster, so I know what I am talking about. This is no joke.

The only way a link becomes an actual link on here is if it starts with “www.”. It can’t start with the h*tp://. Greg’s link didn’t start with www. so it doesn’t show up as a link. If you copy and paste Greg’s link, you’ll get to the site’s just fine. I’d like to see you try to link those two sites D2. With the www. it won’t come out as a link. That website has a profanity filter installed in their comments section, which automatically takes the offending word, and substitutes it with something more “appropriate”. This is what happens with some innocent phrases….

“The rooster says, c0ck a doodle doo.”

“The Dick van Dyke show was great”

I’m diabetic, so I prick my finger every day.

“Hey, d2 — explain this”

I would have to know more about it. All we know for sure is that the Star Democrat Tribune has an extreme liberal bias. If Obama is using this tool to go after conservatives instead of terrorists, then yes, there is a problem.

Evil Baby Fauvel says:

July 11th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

d2, you’re a piece of work.

First, the story is not the Strib’s. It’s being reported in all of the major media outlets.

Second, you have completely misapprehended what the story is all about. It isn’t about Obama going after conservatives (if only!). It’s that the Bush administration’s illegal warrantless wiretapping program was just the tip of the iceberg!

For all of your fretting over Obama’s “liberal soci@list agenda,” you have failed to comprehend that your own party permitted the most sweeping illegal invasion of privacy ever committed by our government!

So, is illegal spying on American citizens OK all the time, or only when Republicans do it?

dare2sayit.com says:

July 11th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

Evil,

I don’t have a problem with intercepting terrorist communication Evil, especially since we’re still at war, and Bush did a great job preventing another terror attack like 9-11. I think the lib’s are continuing to attack Bush to divert attention away from how badly they are handling the economy.

Evil Baby Fauvel says:

July 11th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

d2, Bush wasn’t intercepting only “terrorist communication.” He was wiretapping the communications of innocent, law-abiding American citizens without a warrant, in violation of the law. And now we find out that this was only the beginning. We may never know to what extent he illegally violated our privacy.

I think conservatives are continuing to attack Obama to divert attention away from the criminal acts of Bush & Co.

You know that you’d be calling for Obama’s head had he been in charge when these warrantless wiretaps were approved. Neo-cons like Michele Barfmann are all up in arms about an Obama administration’s imagined “invasion of privacy” — but they express no outrage when their own party has been shown to have actually committed the very invasions they wail might come from Obama!

And you didn’t answer my question, so I’ll ask it again: is illegal spying on American citizens OK all the time, or only when Republicans do it?

dare2sayit.com says:

July 11th, 2009 at 1:10 pm

“And you didn’t answer my question, so I’ll ask it again: is illegal spying on American citizens OK all the time, or only when Republicans do it?”

If it was illegal, then no I don’t agree with it, but was it really illegal? Again, in a time of war like this and knowing that we have dangerous Islamist terrorists living among us such as in the Somali community, I think we should give the FBI all the terror fighting tools they need.

It’s funny how liberals are up in arms about what they consider “illegal wiretapping”, but they love illegal immigration.

Evil Baby Fauvel says:

July 11th, 2009 at 1:17 pm

but was it really illegal?

Yes, d2, it was.

Again, in a time of war like this and knowing that we have dangerous Islamist terrorists living among us such as in the Somali community, I think we should give the FBI all the terror fighting tools they need.

I do too — but it must be done lawfully, within the framework of the Constitution. Even Congress was unaware of most of these secret provisions, and it is Congress — not the president — who should be approving and overseeing them.

Do you think we should just flush the Constitution down the toilet whenever we’re at war?

It’s funny how liberals are up in arms about what they consider “illegal wiretapping”, but they love illegal immigration.

Ah, yes, it always comes back to liberals and illegal immigration, doesn’t it? The world would be a wonderful place and we’d all live happily ever after if only we could get rid of illegal immigration (and liberals, of course).

I’ve said it before that I do not support illegal immigration — and I consider myself a social liberal (I’m a fiscal moderate).

dare2sayit.com says:

July 11th, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Evil,

I haven’t looked much into the wiretapping issue, but there is no doubt in my mind that it probably saved thousands of American lives. Can you name any innocent people who were actually harmed by this policy?

I’m glad you don’t support illegal imigration, but most liberal democrats and many RINO republicans seem to like it. I would keep my eye on the democrat controlled House and Senate, they will again try again to sneak in amnesty for illegals followed by free taxpayer funded health care for them as well.

Greg63 says:

July 11th, 2009 at 2:14 pm

“I’m glad you don’t support illegal imigration, but most liberal democrats and many RINO republicans seem to like it. ”

You define moron.

Nobody likes illegal immigration, but most people are compassionate for those trying to make something of their lives.

And before you go off on your illegal immigrants commiting criminal acts, remember that there are legal citizens doing it as well … and in larger numbers.

When it is going to get through that empty melon on your shoulders that evil doesn’t apply itself strictly by race ..

or don’t they teach you that at your favorite church/conservative gospel preaching platform.

Evil Baby Fauvel says:

July 11th, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I haven’t looked much into the wiretapping issue, but there is no doubt in my mind that it probably saved thousands of American lives. Can you name any innocent people who were actually harmed by this policy?

No I can’t — but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

I can tell you that some people have been harmed by Bush’s illegal, unconstitutional scheme — people like librarians who were forced to produce records of patrons, and then told that if they breathed a word of it to anyone they’d be arrested. (At least that was eventually found to be a violation of free speech rights.)

And since most people will never know what information, thought to be private, was examined by the government, we’ll probably never know if anyone was harmed. Just because you’re ignorant of a crime committed against you doesn’t mean that you’re not a victim of the crime. I would consider it a criminal violation of my privacy if the government were keeping tabs on my credit card purchases, whether or not I knew they were doing it. It’s not that I have anything to hide, but I do have a reasonable expectation that most of my life will remain private and shielded from prying government eyes.

The problem with the wiretaps, d2, is that they were not targeted against specific individuals. Rather, the government sifted through citizens’ privte information trying to find things. That’s a violation of our constitutional protection from unreasonable searches.

When I learned that most of the cellular phone companies complied with the government’s illegal request to sift through data, I switched my cellular service to a company that refused to cave in to Bush and his cronies (it’s Working Assets, now known as CREDO). Remember all the uproar when Congress voted to grant immunity to the telecoms for violation of privacy laws? It was all about the warrantless wiretapping.

And now we learn that there’s a lot more to the story than warrantless wiretapping. I’d say I can’t believe that you actually support this kind of government intrusion, but nothing you believe surprises me anymore.

“Would you go into NE Mpls dressed in your nazi outfit on a Saturday night D2?”

Adolph Hitler was the leader of Germany’s National Soc@list Party, and had a lot in common with today’s Democrat Soci@list Party, and no, I don’t agree with their thinking.

d2, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t blame a former Democratic administration for things that happen on a Republican administration’s watch if you’re going to blame a current Democratic administration for things that happen on its watch.

But of course on your sick, sorry, warped plane of reality, it’s always the fault of the liberals, the democrats, the soci@lists, the illegal immigrants, and any evidence to the contrary be damned.

You forgot to mention the fault is also assigned to Somali’s, African American’s, and other assorted races.

See, most of the drivel you see from D2 is driven by one thing …

prejudice.

Which implies a lack of intelligence.

Bearing that in mind, his words have no value….

On the far-flung plane where d2’s world is found, wouldn’t all African-Americans be liberal democrats, and aren’t all Somalis illegal immigrants?

Which implies a lack of intelligence.

Accuse d2 of intelligence? Perish the thought!

I’d suppose you’re correct .. and may I add that ‘plane’ would involve the homosexual community and Catholics (interesting since it applies to today’s article by KK).

Prejudice has no boundaries.

This is purely an observation, but I believe D2 suffered some bad experiences in his past which were interpretted on a global basis…

those experiences are imbedded and he’s unwilling to face them and subsequently take responsibility for understanding them.

In short, he needs help and perhaps we should all try to send him a prayer or special thought.

“Or a good psychoan@lyst! ”

Isn’t that what Michelle Bachman’s husband does?
