An intramural rugby match? Or time to call campus security?
Nope. It’s just another field of inquiry for the dedicated scholars at “Kinky U,” a student fee-supported offshoot of the U of M’s Queer Student Cultural Center (QSCC).
QSCC already sponsors groups that journey down every sexual side-road and identity bi-way imaginable. Its 14 member groups range from “Biversity” (for “bisexuals, pansexuals, omnnisexuals, and those who prefer no labels”) to “Tranarchy” (for “those who identify as transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, intersex, or gender diverse.”)
Yes, you might think there’s already something for everyone at our flagship institution of higher learning.
But Kinky U aims to reach out to groups still not fully embraced (so to speak) by the university community. It’s “a social and discussion group” for those interested in “all forms of kink, including roleplaying, leather, BDSM [bondage, discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism], and much more,” according to QSCC’s website.
“The term ‘kinky’ can include anything from biting and scratching, ‘which is pretty common,’ to power exchanges and bondage,” said the Daily, quoting Michael Lent, the group’s facilitator.
Lent declined to be interviewed for this column. But the handcuffs pictured on Kinky U’s Web page are worth a thousand words.
Kinky U is now seeking to make kink mainstream by becoming an official student club in its own right. “We’ve definitely had a lot of interest,” said Justin Jagoe of the QSCC. He added that he expects the process to be completed within a few weeks, though a student-led board must still give its approval.
“This is a big step for sexual freedom,” Lent told the Daily. “It’s a milestone for the U and even for the metro area.”
“The purpose of groups funded by student fees, which are decided on by students themselves, is to help encourage a diverse array of ideas and perspectives,” said Jerry Rinehart, the U’s vice provost for student affairs. “As long as the decision process is viewpoint neutral, the U cannot attempt to censor.”
“Kinky U is basically saying, ‘We’re there if you ever decide to have this type of sexual relationship, because it can be a part of your life in a safe way, ” said Genevieve Clute, co-chairwoman of the U’s student-led Sexual Health Awareness and Disease Education organization in a Daily interview. “Even in a casual sexual life, it’s important to set limits and feel safe and comfortable, so it’s fantastic [they’re promoting that].”
Clute could not be reached for further comment.
What goes on at Kinky U’s Thursday night meetings at the QSCC’s “Safe Space” in Coffman Union?
Well, students “explore sexual endeavors through discussion and demonstration,” according to the Daily. (Note to parents: If your daughter at the U tells you she’s working on a demonstration project at school, you may want to ask additional questions).
Kinky U will also sponsor field research. During the next semester, Lent plans “tours of sex-oriented stores in the Twin Cities area,” according to the Daily.
And like many educational organizations, Kinky U sponsors workshops. Last fall, for example, participants learned “to dye and treat leather so that it can be made into something like a collar, which can otherwise be expensive to buy,” according to the Daily.
Stephan Robberts, 28, who led that workshop, said he feels like a mentor to younger participants. “I’ve done a lot of stupid things when I was younger and being there to caution or help others is extremely important,” he told the Daily. “I wish I had a group like Kinky U when I was younger, just to have that knowledge base.”
Some may be surprised to learn that this is the sort of knowledge the university is helping to disseminate, especially because it is apparently always short of resources. But they shouldn’t be surprised.
Kinky U’s meetings focus “on keeping all parties comfortable and safe in their endeavors,” according to the Daily. “Some extreme practices can be potentially dangerous, so the group aims to educate those interested about the risks involved.”
Why not just discourage extreme practices? We wouldn’t want to be judgmental, would we?
JonR and EBF, this should be right up your er, ummmmmm, alley.
“students “explore sexual endeavors through discussion and demonstration,”
Good Heavens to Mergatroid!!!!!!!
Are our tax dollars being used to fund this filth or is it student paid tuition? I guess either way its tax dollars through grants and sibsidized loans. What a waste.
Kinky U.
The “U” must stand for Urinal.
BM never responded to my question on NAMBLA. I’m interested in his interest in MAN-BOY sexual behavior.
At least Evil thinks NAMBLA is a disgusting organization. Good for him.
What is the point of this post beyond sensationalism? What is it with rightwingers’ prurient interest in other people’s sex lives? You guys are weird.
As for the student group at the “U”, it has every right to exist. It’s activities are legal, and — contrary to what the rightwing fears (or should that be hopes for?!!) — membership is voluntary.
In fact, one person who may want to stop by group meeting at Coffman Union is Republican Senator Larry Craig.
Michael Blaine
www.rudelystamped.blogspot.com
That is, if Republican Senator Larry Craig had had such a group at his university, he may not have grown up to be a furtive, law-breaking pervert.
Michael Blaine
www.rudelystamped.blogspot.com
This is really some disgusting stuff. But hey come on you guys, this IS the future of America.
For crying out loud, this is a small group of very young people.
KK(K) in her previous post praised the ancient Greeks profusely, yet they had some attitudes toward sex that we now consider to be beyond the pale.
Same thing here. A few people creating a sex club at the “U” does not mean the end of America as a great country.
Please try to maintain some perspective; the whole point of this post is to promote intolerance.
And intolerance, unlike odd sex practices engaged in by a very small minority, actually could destroy America.
Think about it.
Michael Blaine

“Think about it.”
See BM if you were really smart. I mean really worthy of people spending their time reading what you write, you would have said:
Think Again
Note to parents: If your daughter at the U tells you she’s working on a demonstration project at school, you may want to ask additional questions
But apparently you need not worry about your sons.
Yes, you might think there’s already something for everyone at our flagship institution of higher learning.
Katherine, dear, I’ll break it to you as gently as I can: there is more to sex than the missionary position.
Is this column going to be published in the paper tomorrow?
You’ve painted quite a picture here, Katherine. Since I know nothing about this group – does that surprise you, TJ? – I can neither defend nor condemn it, but demonstrations don’t have to involve students actually having sex. Aren’t bananas used to demonstrate how to put on condoms?
There are likely more people interested in “kink” than most people realize. You can discourage “extreme practices” all you want, but some people will ignore you. Isn’t it better that those people be taught how to do these things as safely as possible? I personally have no interest in any of the things described here (sorry, TJ, you’ll have to find someone else), but I’d rather the people who do practice these things do so safely; much preferable than a visit to the ER.
Way to go BM. KK most likely posted this topic in response to you perverted post. What a loser you are. The next time you want to post on your special interest extracurricular actvities do it on your own sad blog site ya freak.
Someone open a window. BM’s got it a stunk up in here.
“but I’d rather the people who do practice these things do so safely; much preferable than a visit to the ER.”
EBF,
How would the ER handle a breech birth Gerble?
GSAHA, I’m not in the medical field. You’ll have to ask someone else.
“GSAHA, I’m not in the medical field. You’ll have to ask someone else.”
EBF,
Thanks. Your right, I’ll ask Dare2. He’s a rocket scientist.
Hey D2,
How would the ER handle a breech birth Gerble?
“Well, students “explore sexual endeavors through discussion and demonstration,”
KK,
Isn’t this better then trial and error?
“How would the ER handle a breech birth Gerble?”
Only some A-hole would try giving birth to that.
“Only some A-hole would try giving birth to that.”
Soooo your saying ask Tiny?
“Someone open a window. BM’s got it a stunk up in here.”
Go,
Pull my finger.
It’d be an air freshener.
Where is Tiny anyway?
“Pull my finger.
It’d be an air freshener.”
I wonder If thats demonstrated at Kinky U.
Where is Tiny anyway?
Probably with TJ at “Kinky U.” (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist….)
“How would the ER handle a breech birth Gerble?”
That’s probably a pretty sensitive topic in some of our more liberal communities. Please don’t offend!
“Probably with TJ at “Kinky U.” (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist….)”
Can ya visualize what they would be demonstrating. Oh god. I’m gonna be sick.
I wonder If thats demonstrated at Kinky U.
I bet it’s not finger’s that they’re pullin’
GSAHA — save the visuals for diamondgrl! Much safer that way!
Can ya visualize what they would be demonstrating. Oh god. I’m gonna be sick.
Angry, fruitcake, NUTJOBS no doubt
You had to bring up nuts….
Wrapped around your shvinkter
The police
You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the scylla and charybidis
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger
I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they wouldnt teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
Turned into a shining band of gold
Ill be wrapped around your shvinkter
Ill be wrapped around your shvinkter
You had to bring up nuts….
Like they’re lacking around here!!
“Angry, fruitcake, NUTJOBS no doubt”
Is a nutjob…um…like being….tea bagged?
If it is we need to put a stop to tiny’s use of the word.
Like they’re lacking around here!!
No, they’re probably part of TJ and tiny’s “demonstration.” OK, time for more bourbon after that visual….
“OK, time for more bourbon after that visual….”
I’ll drink to that
No, they’re probably part of TJ and tiny’s “demonstration.”
Oh thanks, I don’t think there is enough beer in the world to clear that visual.
But I’ll check!
the beers not here and the bars not far
Prison bars don’t serve liquor and it’s always closin’ time.
Ya hear that illegals! Comprende?
Oh thanks, I don’t think there is enough beer in the world to clear that visual.
That’s why I drink bourbon.
“That’s why I drink bourbon”
Bourbon doesn’t like me.
Still checking on how much beer to clear the visual though.
Hi Katherine,
Would you consider doing a piece on the illegal alien “Santuary City” policies which are imposed by the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul?
Maybe you have already, if so, my apologies.
Thanks.
D2SI
KKK: more self-loathing than Fred Phelps.
Kinky U?…. I have mixed feelings…. I am very opposed, but I would like to join the group.
Leland,
Personally, I would be reluctant to join any group which would allow me as a member, I don’t know about you.
How would the ER handle a breech birth Gerble?
The ER would page the OB-GYN on call to perform a C-Section.
I have never laughed so much at a post. Katherine, you missed your calling as a comedic writer - Hollywood is calling!
Why not just discourage extreme practices? We wouldn’t want to be judgmental, would we?
Actually, I think this “Kinky U” organization is wasting their time. I bet the Kinsey Institute has a special team working on this particular behaviour already.
all of this controversy over a student group is much ado about nothing. when the liberal regressives get in office they are likely have a cabinet position for these type of activities.
I think KK needs to get her pipes cleaned.
What is really queer is that moral conservatives like Katherine fail to see the hypocrisy in their outrage over those who don’t line up with their notion of right and wrong. Conservatives favor limited government regulation in the personal choices of citizens that cause no harm to the general public. So what’s the alternative here - ban this group, make it illegal to discuss or do things you happen to find morally repugnant? You can’t have it both ways - either the University should be run like a fundamentalist madrasah where deviation from a moral code is not allowed, or the U (and the country) should tolerate a free range of ideas, including those that are abhorrent to you. Personally, I find your imposition of your personal moral code on others that don’t choose to subscribe to it to be to be offensive and mean-spirited, meant only to provoke the “ain’t it awful how our country is decaying morally” vitriol of those that already agree with you. I’m happy, however, to live in a country where your personal freedom to condemn the personal freedoms of others is unrestricted.
The other day’s article about kids and sports is relevent. This article about a FEW kids and ???
Like this stuff is any of my business? They’re young and in college. If ten kids wanna pay five bucks to start a club where they dress in yellow chicken suits and do headstands, so what?
“We wouldn’t want to be judgmental, would we?”
“the language of “health and safety” has hijacked our old vocabulary of right and wrong.”
Obviously it’s so much more fun to be judgmental.
And, apparently, voyeuristic.
My own feeling is Katherine’s engaging in pre-marital sexual activity is too kinky. Whatever happened to traditional values?
Ms. Kersten: if you’re straight, then be with someone of the opposite sex if you want. Being gay, straight, or bisexual isn’t a choice; it’s a reality.
If you’re not into kink, then don’t do it. Many of us, gay or straight, are not into kink - if that makes you feel any better.
Do try another “traditional value”: Live and let live.
What makes this country great is not majority rules, it is repect and tolerence for the minority. Once we forget that, this country is doomed.
Wish KK would spend more time on real issues instead of these emotional push-button issues. The upcoming economic and energy crisis is not going to be solved through traditional values. These problems are going to be fixed through hard-work and intellect. Some of these problem solvers are going to have kinky sexual habits. Thats the way it is.
Hi, all,
Sex is like mathematics: there’s one right answer and an infinite number of wrong ones.
Actually, my ignorance is exceeded only by my apathy.
Have a good day, everybody.
FC, sometimes there are multiple right answers in mathematics. For example, what is the square root of four?
Hi, all,
EBF, I think we’re saying the same thing with different words. The square roots of four are plus two and minus two; that’s the right answer. I didn’t say, nor did I mean to imply, that there’s always only one number that will answer a question correctly. I suppose I should have been more specific.
Do you think we’ve evolved as human or just have to much time our hands now.
M’s Queer Student Cultural Center? What’s next Right hand wipers group, left hand wipers group. NO WIPERS group.
I’m so glad I’m normal.
Questioner; Tiny what sets you apart from other people, especially the people who live by the Tall Buildings.
Tiny; I’m normal.
“Pennsylvania man charged with electrocuting wife during nip zip”
I don’t know what “nip” is. I guess I need to take the “tours of sex-oriented stores in the Twin Cities area,” I guess.Get educated.
If the U didn’t censor Maranatha Christian Fellowship, the group that spreads lies about the spread of HIV/AIDS and makes degrading comments about the LGBT community, then they surely can’t censor this group.
Student groups don’t receive operation money from the U. The student group fees go to support things like the e-mail and web space that’s provided to the groups. The groups must raise their own money beyond those basic services.
globe199 Maranatha Christian Fellowship you would ban them, I take it.
I love these Nujobs. Why, because in the end they are what they hate. Strip away all the “materials” and just look at their attitudes. If challenged you couldn’t tell which group was which group. It’s the same level of scorn and hatred towards each other.
As someone that is in the Finance and Accounting Student Association, I know that the U doesn’t give a dime to self-formed student groups. Like globe says, it’s just for a webpage and e-mail address for the group, which is paid for with the $25/year the groups are required to pay to be recognized. As sick and perverted as this group may be, the U is not looking to censor (or censure) the people of any group that wants to be formed, unless it specifically endangers the greater community. Campus Crusade for Christ started as an organization to support Ronald Reagan’s “holy wars” in Central America and support the Contras responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people in Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, and other countries, but the U let them in as a group as well because they don’t have the authority to hand-pick student groups.
That being said, gross. Why would people want to join Kinky U? Seems really ill-founded and disgusting, not to mention perpetrate sexual roles of physical domination and the notion that some deserve physical harm just for pleasure’s sake. Disgusting. Might as well call it “Future Rapists U” if people actually take masichism seriously.
It’s not any more sick or perverted than the Christian fundamentalist groups at the U. At least Kinky U are inclusive. If you aren’t a white homophobe, good luck getting into Maranatha.
“a student fee-supported offshoot of the U of M’s Queer Student Cultural Center (QSCC).”
UofM or Globe,
Does this money come from all students, or just the students participating in the groups?
tluck, the money comes from all fulltime students as a part of their normals fees. the groups themselves must raise whatever funds they need beyond the very basic services provided.
Student Fees come from all students. The QSCC IS funded by the university as a diversity program. However, KK is wrong when she says that the new group will also be university-funded. It is simply being founded by a frequenter of the QSCC as a student group, which are NOT funded by the U.
I know UofM you where probably busy throwin’ up you Green Pea Gerbers at the time, but it wasn’t exactly a “holy war”. Unless fighting godless Communism is a “holy War”. Don’t kid yourself you imbecile, those people are much better off today because of it.
I don’t think you realize how silly and idiotic your posts really are. It’s dumb, like BM dumb.
globe199 YOU ARE THEM !!!!!! Look in the mirror, you are those people. Your obsession is the same. You hatred is the same. Only thing different is the nature of the BS comnin of out your mouths.
I’m glad to see there are still people from the U that are All inclusive…such as yourself….Oh and tolerant….such as yourself….oh and a bigot…oops such as yourself.

globe199 THATS YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I’m surprised that you’d just lambast me like that, tiny, since I actually agree somewhat with KK for once.
If you hadn’t noticed, I put “holy wars” (
I put “holy wars” in quotes since they WERE wars over Communism but also provided a time for Reagan to advocate the sending of missionaries down to the area to convert people to Christianity.
Also, if you hadn’t notice, one of the main figures he tried to oust in Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, was just ELECTED president again in 2006. Great progress made by The Almighty Reagan down there, isn’t it?
“tluck, the money comes from all fulltime students”
“Student Fees come from all students.”
Then I call BS
The students that do not participate, should not have to subsidize those that do.
Wow, I see we have a few liberal fruitcake’s from the Queer Student Cultural Center opening up their yaps. How nice.
U guy says:
“I put “holy wars” in quotes since they WERE wars over Communism but also provided a time for Reagan to advocate the sending of missionaries down to the area to convert people to Christianity.”
Would you prefer them to be Muslims like the ones who are slaughtering innocent people in Darfur?
tluck, you didn’t listen to me. The new group will NOT be funded by the university.
“The students that do not participate, should not have to subsidize those that do.”
Tell that to the athletes that get their trips, uniforms, and facilities paid for by student service fees. Tell that to the academic health center, which I personally have never used but would if I were seriously ill. Tell that to the people that charge me $100 a semester for a new football stadium that I will STILL have to pay to get into.
More than just a group for gays get funding from student services fees, and the reality is that the places that have the funding couldn’t operate without it.
D2, If ANY Muslims just ruthlessly slaughtered people like those in Darfur, then why aren’t there instances like it in every single country in the world? Even Christianity has people who call themselves “fundamentalist” just for the sake of torturing people who don’t share their beliefs. I have no problem with Muslims unless they are going to use their religion to hurt others, like in Darfur.
To answer your question, I don’t care what religion Nicaraguans are, as long as they don’t use religion as a means for civil war in their country. If they were Christians attacking other Nicaraguan nationals for their nonbelief, I would consider it no less awful than genocide in Darfur.
For example, Kenya has a population that is over 70% Christian, many of whom are participating in - and advocating - the attacks currently happening there against innocent people. I think that the killings there are completely unjustified, just like in the Darfur region of Sudan, but these attacks are being carried out by Christians, not Muslims. It’s sickening, no matter what religion they are associated with.
“but these attacks are being carried out by Christians, not Muslims. It’s sickening, no matter what religion they are associated with.”
When the Sh:t hits the fan and things break down to their tribal components religion is no longer a player. Religion is just another building to hide in till things calm down.
tluck, you didn’t listen to me. The new group will NOT be funded by the university.
Here’s what you said:
The QSCC IS funded by the university as a diversity program. However, KK is wrong when she says that the new group will also be university-funded. It is simply being founded by a frequenter of the QSCC as a student group, which are NOT funded by the U.
So Kinky U receives it’s “support” from a group, QSCC, funded by the U? I’m confused?
Tell that to the athletes that get their trips, uniforms, and facilities paid for by student service fees. Tell that to the academic health center, which I personally have never used but would if I were seriously ill. Tell that to the people that charge me $100 a semester for a new football stadium that I will STILL have to pay to get into.
I WILL!! The only example I see that I might agree with is the student health service.
“…attacks currently happening there against innocent people.”
That, I believe, is much more newsworthy, and much more of a concern… than a few college kids talking about sex… I went to college back in the day, believe it or not… And we talked about sex, too. It’s nothing new… Kids are gonna do that, whether there is a formal meeting place or not.
“Reagan to advocate the sending of missionaries down to the area to convert people to Christianity.”
HEY MORON they where already Christian.
Why in the world would you want to come on here and post when you don’t have a clue what you’re talkin’ about.
I would be embarrassed. I mean honest to god. Where do you get this crap?
And that doesn’t mean I agree with or condone all that kinky weird crap (I don’t even know what half those terms mean. What’s a ‘pansexual?’ Does that mean you do it while cooking?). I feel that there are much worse issues on the table to deal with.
Yes Daniel Ortega is president of Nicaragua. And he did it with free and fair elections, and not a point of gun like he wanted to before.
Listen you don’t know what your talkin’.
Listen school is for learning. Go hit all the sex joints after a few Kamikazes in Dinky Town and have a whale of a time.
U guy says:
“D2, If ANY Muslims just ruthlessly slaughtered people like those in Darfur, then why aren’t there instances like it in every single country in the world?”
Wake up Man. Islamofascists kill hundreds of innocent Infidels daily in the name of Islam. What the hell do they teach you at the U anyway. Certainly not any truthful current events.
At least I’m not the moron who sits online all day just to prey on someone that tries to advocate for unity, you f#@king a$$hole. What have I done to you to receive the sh!t you give me all the time? Why can’t you stop being the BIGOT that you claim I am and actually have the cajones to stand up for what is right instead of just spouting nonsense and verbally harassing people all day? I may be a liberal, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t at least LISTEN to other people. All you ever do is be a huge d!ckhead to everyone that is on here. Some f$#king life you live.
and f@#k you too, D2. I know plenty of Muslim people that are excellent Americans and human beings. The actions of some don’t justify the stereotyping of all people. You are just as bad as tiny AND Michael Blaine. All of you are just bigoted lowlifes who don’t give a sh!t about anyone but yourselves and people who agree with you completely. YOU are what’s wrong with this country, not Democrats or Republicans or anything else! Get a f#$king clue and know that not everyone thinks like you do and NEVER will. I’d KILL MYSELF before I’d ever be such an a$$hole that you three all. Just a waste of your whole life and my time.
Have a great time when a Democrat wins the presidential election this year too. Your lives are just gonna feel like a living hell for the next four years, I bet. EQUALITY?! ACCOUNTABILITY?! Oh, no, not the Democrats!
UofM,
Take a Stresstab buddy.
It’s just a silly blog.

Michael Blaine is what’s wrong with this country?

MB
Yah, UofM, one thing I learned in my years is once I blow my top, I have lost the argument.
Too bad, too, cuz you really raise some good points.
It’s a silly blog when I go by the name ‘rabbit.’ Like that really conveys some serious intellect.
It can be fun to debate the issues–even when some opinions seem to come from Pluto.
Seriously, UofM, good political discourse should not have swearing, namecalling and bashing the opponent. Unfortunately, you are too young to remember when debates did not include that… I’m probably too young, too, unless I can search for vague memories of HHH or W Mondale…
“[G]ood political discourse should not have swearing, namecalling and bashing the opponent.”
But most of the poltical discourse on this blog is not “good.” A lot of the posters here sound like below-average teenagers.
MB
BM,
Please tell us more about MAN-BOY naughtyness. You seem to get into that.
You bet, MB, but that could really be a representation of what’s out there…? It’s not a whole lot different that a buncha average Joes (or Janes) sitting in a sports bar talking about the issues. The only differences are we are separated by these little screens, and anything we say is suspended permanently in cyberspace…
If I tell someone that I go by the name ‘rabbit,’ they could find my rants five years from now…
In fact, UofM2010, I remember now that a couple of weeks ago I recommended you not waste your time posting here. Enjoy the “U”, and forget about these puerile “discussions.”
MB
It’s too bad the Strib didn’t hire a columnist smarter and more subtle than KK(K), because it’s really dumbed down the whole operation and precluded the creation of a worthwhile blog in this space.
MB
U guy,
Don’t get your liberal undies in a bundle! You should learn to be more tolerant of other peoples points of veiw.
“Rabbit says:

Yes, I am afraid that is what’s out there.
Through the magic of the Internet I have come into contact with people so bigoted, ignorant and parochial that I wouldn’t have believed it otherwise.
But there are blogs out there that do attract intelligent and respectful (usually) posters. (If I didn’t have a full-time job and a family, I’d try to run one myself or with a team.)
The problem is, I feel so connected to Minnesota that I’m unable to break away from the hometown paper. I admit it.

Michael Blaine is what’s wrong with this country?
How so?
Let me count the ways:
1.Shameless self promotion of a really stupid blog.
2.Bringing idea’s from a really stupid blog to another blog where people are actually having discussions. Whether on topic or off. And then:
3.Refuse to answer direct questions that challenge the stupid ideas from your really stupid blog. Direct quote “I’m not obligated to respond.”
Want me to continue?
sure, go on
“You should learn to be more tolerant of other peoples points of veiw (sic).”
Except usually they’re not so much points of view as infantile rants.
Many posters here scapegoat Mexicans, Muslims, gays, liberals and intellectuals when the real source of their problems is more likely the criminals in the White House and on Wall Street or — most likely of all — themselves.

Hey BM,

BM,
Do you think all that cultures are equal?
‘The terms “liberal” and “intellectual” are contradictory.’
Hardly. Look at Harvard University.
You merely wish it were that way, D2SI, but the fact is the Republican grassroots consist largely of the most egregious dullards and simpletons in the nation.

ohmigodyouguys - there are kids at the U talking about se# in VERY NONTRADITIONAL WAYS! In an organized manner!
This affects in no way, but i am absolutely steamed about it because of…i dunno, the Bible or something. Or possibly because there are liberals involved. i fear their ideas.
I sure wish things were like they used to be, back when things like this didn’t happen. also, liberals are crazy. did i mention that? and stupid.
UofM
Way to go off the deep end. Great response to the sh:t you were getting from the others. Big words, swear words and not a misspelled word. Great, and I mean great stuff.
O.K. BM, I’m going to throw a chair through a window if you don’t stop crapping here.

Is that why the the largest support for the democrat party comes from poor, uneducated folks?
The more education a person has the more likely they are to be a Democrat.
That is a fact.
“Keep defaming me, and I’ll track you down through a subpoena to the StarTribune and sue you into bankruptcy.”

Dear Ms. Kersten,
Last I checked the Minnesota Daily is a real newspaper organization and If I’m not mistaken Ms. Kersten, you get paid to write articles for the Star Tribune, are a Star Tribune representative, and in turn the Star Tribune profits off advertisement when readers read your column. Your article regarding the U’s student group is nearly filled with quotations from the Minnesota Daily article. While you do cite your source and note that no one was available to comment, I find your actions to instead steal another reporter’s work and print it under the guise of your work to be the borderline of plagiarism. You are not writing a blog for the internet Ms. Kersten, you are getting paid as a writer. In this instance I find your ethics to be less than desirable and that the Daily has a probable legal challenge against you and the Star Tribune. When the Star Tribune is not able to reach someone for comment, it does not begin aimlessly posting quotes from the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune. I find your actions to plagiarize a lesser newspaper in poor taste and ethically concerning. No link was even provided to the original article plagiarized.
Secondly, your article did not state whether any of those quoted consented to being printed in your article, especially since their words were maliciously modified and coerced. You also included a quote from a University student who is not even directly related to the student group in question, that you did not obtain yourself. This complete disregard of the sources providing you quotes in the first place is a very grave concern. Sources must be treated with the utmost dignity and especially when you did not obtain them or authorize them yourself.
As a former Minnesota Daily editor who has worked tirelessly to truly bring a credible news product to the Twin Cities, your actions are a very arrogant, dismissive and cowardly slap in the face to the hard work of our student reporters who are paid to do real reporting. I would ask you kindly apologize to the reporter in which you have so audaciously stolen from her and print a retraction and apology to the people in question. Unfortunately the Star Tribune has already begun profiting off your stolen work, that cannot be returned to the Daily. The media landscape is not a playground, there are rules to live by and are likely spelled out in your contract Ms. Kersten. There is an ethical standard the press is held to (yes even columnists).
Sincerely and with urgency,

Check out the scratching and biting scene at ‘Kinky U’
You might think there’s already something for everyone at our flagship institution of higher learning.

There’s some serious scratching and biting going on at the University of Minnesota.
“The term ‘kinky’ can include anything from biting and scratching, ‘which is pretty common,’ to power exchanges and bondage,” said the Minnesota Daily, quoting Michael Lent, the group’s facilitator.
He added that he expects the process to be complete within a few weeks, though a student-led board must still give its approval.
“Kinky U is basically saying, ‘We’re there if you ever decide to have this type of sexual relationship, because it can be a part of your life in a safe way,’ ” said Genevieve Clute, co-chairwoman of the U’s student-led Sexual Health Awareness and Disease Education organization in a Daily interview.
(Note to parents: If your daughter at the U tells you she’s working on a demonstration project at school, you may want to ask additional questions.)
Kinky U also will sponsor field research.
At the U, as in much of academe, the language of “health and safety” has hijacked our old vocabulary of right and wrong.
Original article follows:
‘Kinky U’ promotes sexual awareness in unusual ways
By Courtney Sinner
college students are sometimes known for their adventurous sexual exploits, and one campus group is trying to make sure those experiences stay safe and don’t get out of hand.
Kinky U, a student group under the Queer Student Cultural Center, hopes to finish its constitution within a month to become an official campus group that welcomes all students to explore sexual endeavors through discussion and demonstration.
“It’s a milestone for the ‘U’ and even for the metro area,” Michael Lent, facilitator of Kinky U, said. “It’s an open discussion for both queer and straight, and any gender is welcome. Other groups aren’t geared toward everyone - we’re ‘pansexual.’ ”
According to Lent, the term “kinky” can include anything from biting and scratching, “which is pretty common,” to power exchanges and bondage.
The discussions involved at Kinky U’s meetings focus mainly on keeping all parties comfortable and safe in their endeavors. Some extreme practices can be potentially dangerous, so the group aims to educate those interested about the risks involved.
Genevieve Clute, co-chairwoman of Sexual Health Awareness and Disease Education, said the idea of empowering someone to be comfortable and in a safe environment is a great idea.
“Even in a casual sexual life, it’s important to set limits and feel safe and comfortable, so it’s fantastic (they’re promoting that),” Clute said.
Clute said participants must keep in mind that with any exchange of bodily fluids there is a risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection.
“Kinky U is basically saying, ‘we’re there if you ever decide to have this type of sexual relationship, because it can be a part of your life in a safe way,’ ” Clute said.

Kinky U, a student group under the Queer Student Cultural Center, hopes to finish its constitution within a month to become an official campus group that welcomes all students to explore sexual endeavors through discussion and demonstration.
“It can be a hard step to take, but it’s a positive and necessary step to take if you’re interested.”
Lent echoed the comment. “There is a little bit of a coming out process because it involves different sexual practices that are not as socially acceptable.”
He said that while identifying with these practices isn’t something family and friends always need to know about, admitting and accepting it of oneself is important, as is sharing and discussing it with sexual partners.
Stephan Robberts, a club member, said the coming-out process has gotten easier over the years.
“Ten years ago it was much more taboo,” he said. “There is a lot of misconception about kink, which has given it a bad name.”
Stephan attended five or six of Kinky U’s meetings last fall and directed a leatherworking workshop for one. He taught participants how to dye and treat leather so that it can be made into something like a collar, which can otherwise be expensive to buy.
Because he is older than most attendees, Robberts, 28, said he sometimes feels like more of a mentor.
“I’ve done a lot of stupid things when I was younger and being there to caution or help others is extremely important,” he said. “I wish I had a group like Kinky U when I was younger, just to have that knowledge base.”
Some students on campus, however, don’t agree with how Kinky U is receiving its funding.
Being under the QSCC, Kinky U is allocated a set amount of money at the beginning of every semester. The QSCC receives that money from the University, from student tuition and fees.
Justin Petersen, an architecture sophomore, said since the group serves a small portion of the student population, it should get less funding than other student groups.
“I’m sure it’s not the only unusual group out there, though,” he said.
Lent said the group has gotten five or six e-mails from angry students in the past.
“They want to know why their tuition is going to our group and can’t believe they’re paying for this,” he said.
Lindsey Schultz, a speech-language-hearing sciences sophomore, shared a similar opinion.
“I think it’s fine that the group exists,” she said. “It’s their own personal opinion, but I don’t really want my tuition to go to that.”
Clute said it’s important to support all groups on campus.
“They all reach out to students that need it,” she said. “SHADE has gotten e-mails like that in the past, too, but we’re never going to please everyone.”
The meetings, which are held Thursdays at 7 p.m. in Coffman Union, are safe and confidential. The funding that Kinky U gets from the QSCC goes to various workshops and outings. Last semester, Lent said the group spent about half its funding on advertising, but probably won’t do that again.
This spring, Lent wants to take more outings with the group, such as to the Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Studies at Andersen Library, or tours of sex-oriented stores in the Twin Cities area.
Lent said he’d also like to invite more speakers from the community to provide various perspectives on the subject.
“This is a big step for sexual freedom,” he said.
Some quick thoughts:
A) Now I know what is wrong with the U of M football team.
B) In my era at the “U,” the College Republicans (of which I was NOT a member) managed to convince the Board of Regents to allow a “negative check-off” on Minnesota Public Interest Research Group (MPIRG) funds that came out of the student service fee in those days. Basically, if you did not want to support MPIRG, you checked a box on the student service fee form and you got a buck or two back…or something like that. The same should go for this sort of thing.
C) I have no issues with freedom of assembly or any of that stuff..if they want to meet and do whatever, fine. But I resent the fact that OUR tax dollars are supporting this and who-knows-what other kinds of groups. I have no issue with funds for infrastructure, facilities, etc. on campus, but where does the line get drawn?
I suspect that if KK looked at the variety of groups receiving funding through student service fees beyond “Kinky U,” she would have enough material for her and Nick Coleman for a year!

We can all access various web sites to find whatever we need to support any comment. Not too tough to do. Most statistics are as worthless as the paper they are printed on. i.e. unemployment stats. Oh wait, someone will jump on that one with “well there are those that don’t want to be employed” so let me further qualify that the stats don’t account for those that are seeking employment.
And don’t we think it gets tiring that if we express an opinion that some of you don’t agree with that we are labeled as dumb, bigoted, ignorant, and whatever else you can think of.

A discussion, an exchange of views and ideas. That’s what blogs are for.
Not a place where Whackjobs can come in and post their nonsense.
Like this : “heavily subsidized right-wing trust-fund babies who wouldn’t be able to get that college education, much less find or hold down a real job, if it wasn’t for the family ‘hand-up’ handouts.”
Now what the hell does that mean?
“Whackjobs”
Sounds like a UM sorority
Yes sir, B of M was very scary last night. Using big words and threatening me with a lawsuit. I’m soooooo scared. But not sooooo scared to lose sleep over it. Nice to know the mindset we’re dealing with here.
This discussion has gone nowhere, because of all the sick comments you freaks keep leaving.
I think the main issue here is not the group. If people want to have a Kinky U group at our great university, fine by me (I’m an alum). But in no way should it be paid for by all students (as student fees are). At the end of the day, the U is funded from two sources - tax dollars and tuition/student fees. Now, one could argue that this group isn’t funded by taxpayers, but instead by “student services fees”, as it is. But the reality is, if groups like this weren’t funded, we wouldn’t need as many tax dollars supporting the U. In other words, the good people of Minnesota are paying for this waste of a group. Not cool.
““Whackjobs”
Sounds like a UM sorority”
Sounds more like a fraternity initiation ritual to me.
I thought the suing thing was just a little humor.
“Now listen TODAY me and Marka can have an adult conversion.”
Im finally in. Ive made it to the adult table.
It was a long hard road, full of trials and tribulations, but Ive finally made it. There are so many people to thank. First, Id like to thank Brimn for making me realize that we are all full of BS, including me. Thanks Brimn, wherever you are. Id like to thank Newbiz for helping me realize Im really not a liberal like I thought I was. Id like to thank D2 for making me realize Im also not a conservative. Finally to all the blogmates I left out, go get yer’ shine boxes!!
Ever hear this one DD?
“Sh:t, Shinonla.”
Do you know the difference?
Is this really a big deal or a surprise? does anyone know how many people are in this club? I don’t think these clubs are either endorsed or funded by the university, they just have to provide a space. Am i wrong?
That brimn I remember him. He was one angry SOB. Personally I’m glad he’s gone.
“Is this really a big deal or a surprise? does anyone know how many people are in this club?”
I would think you would need at least two. But I haven’t been to any sex shops laterly.
“I don’t think these clubs are either endorsed or funded by the university,”
I was trying to get a straight answer to that last night but then UofM lost it. Near as I can tell it’s an offshoot of a group, QSCC, that is funded by student fees.
“I was trying to get a straight answer to that last night but then UofM lost it.”
Your not going to get a STRAIGHT answer on this topic.
I’m curious about why these people/students feel the need to advertise their sexual preference or kink, if you will. Are they craving attention that they don’t get elsewhere? Or are they trying to attract the attention of the sado-masochistic murderer? What?
I guess perhaps, I answered my own question. These people have a death wish.
The thing is, why don’t they just advertise on Craigs List and leave the U out of it?
Am I the only one amazed with the way this country is going? These clubs are acceptable but the Boy Scouts are not?
I’m not sure that this is anything new; it has probably been practiced forever. It’s just that, well, it wasn’t acceptable behavior and now it’s all out in the open. It’s sort of like murder and the increase in violence. The more we hear about it, the more acceptable it becomes until it’s the “norm”.
There just isn’t anything shocking about murder anymore. I was in grade school when T. Eugene Thompson had his wife murdered. Funny, I even remember his name. Of course we remember the names of some serial killers and mass murderers, Manso, Bundy, etc. but murder and violence is no longer shocking. A week later no one remembers the murderers name or even the victim.
“I’m curious about why these people/students feel the need to advertise their sexual preference or kink, if you will. Are they craving attention that they don’t get elsewhere?”
The way I see it is they can do what they like. They arent asking for attention, you’re giving it to them. And they aren’t flaunting themselves anymore than heterosexual men and women do everyday in public by the way they dress prevocativly or engage in PDA. I could care less what people do.
You cant tell me the younf hetero men and women on campus arent flaunting themselves and looking for attention.
So AG, no I’m not surprised at the way this country or the world is going.
“It’s sort of like murder and the increase in violence. The more we hear about it, the more acceptable it becomes until it’s the “norm”.”
Relax TJ. How does this effect you on a daily basis? Dont like it? Ignore it.
I agree, TJ, it does seem like the murders on the TV news don’t get any more priority than the weather or the fishing report or something. The citizens do not accept the violence. As far as the students… Hey whatever they do, no matter how weird it is, as long as it does not directly affect us, then I say let ‘em. No one has been attacked in the street by someone dressed in leather who-knows-what and pink bunny-slippers. You see that, you might die laughing–but they won’t hurt you.
Are you serious????????????????????? You are one of tiny’s NUTJOB, WHACKJOBS! Something wrong with you boy.
Let’s see, when it becomes the “norm” it will be happening everywhere, not just North Mpls. and Brooklyn Park.
“Are you serious????????????????????? You are one of tiny’s NUTJOB, WHACKJOBS! Something wrong with you boy.
Let’s see, when it becomes the “norm” it will be happening everywhere, not just North Mpls. and Brooklyn Park.”
This was in reponse to 4blahswhacko.
TJ,
Im talking about the UofM club you dolt. If you dont like the kids actions ignore them. They arent hurting you by wearing leather and sniffing feet.
I’m guessing 4B meant to ignore the kids’ coo-coo club–not the violence.
See, it’s like this 4blahswhackonutjob, everything starts somewhere. If people continue to accept things that aren’t really acceptable, like this, it won’t be long before it snowballs and people are having sex whenever and whereever they damn well feel like it. Imagine the person in the cube next to you boinking someone on their desk during working hours.
“See, it’s like this 4blahswhackonutjob, everything starts somewhere. Whatever chicken little. When was the last time you saw the sun?
By the way, find your own style and stop ripping off tiny. Not only is it obvious, its also pathetic.
Wow, you are really unhappy today. Bad weekend? Wife cut you off?
The way I see it is they can do what they like. They arent asking for attention, you’re giving it to them. And they aren’t flaunting themselves anymore than heterosexual men and women do everyday in public by the way they dress prevocativly or engage in PDA. I could care less what people do.
Blahs,
Agreed. My only issue is that It does appear to be indirectly funded by student fees that all students pay. And that’s BS
“Wow, you are really unhappy today. Bad weekend? Wife cut you off?”
Do you read what you write?
““Are you serious????????????????????? You are one of tiny’s NUTJOB, WHACKJOBS! Something wrong with you boy.”
Are these the words of a “happy” man?
“Agreed. My only issue is that It does appear to be indirectly funded by student fees that all students pay. And that’s BS”
Then do away with all student clubs. All or nothing.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the ’snowball effect.’ Workplaces have very strict rules about what you can say or do under the ‘harrassment’ or ‘inappropriate’ categories.
If a couple kids wanna meet and dress up like Julius Caesar or wear purple gorilla suits and talk about sex, so what?
“If a couple kids wanna meet and dress up like Julius Caesar or wear purple gorilla suits and talk about sex, so what?”
It might spread. Booowahahahahahaaaa!!!!!
Watch out the Queers are coming the Queers are coming!!!!
AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
Seriously, TJ, do you feel more inclined to insert things where they’ve never been before or wear a dress? Why would you think others would be influenced by this? Perhaps you’re scared? Not confident in yourself TJ?
Yep. Sounds like the legs have slammed shut. LOL! I wonder what you said or did to deserve that!
Maybe you should wear your own underwear. Women really hate is when their favorite ensemble is missing.
Or maybe the reason your so gung ho on this kinky sex is because that’s what you do. You are incredibly defensive about some things that tend to make me wonder about you.
“Why would you think others would be influenced by this? Perhaps you’re scared?”
There are vulnerable children and teens out there, YOU DOLT! Kids are certainly impressionble and may just want to experiment when they hear about this crap. You really are an idiot.
TJ,
Im sure this stuff sounds clever and funny when you’re writing it. Its not.
One of the rules I opperate under is dont tell me what I can and cant do in my bedroom and I wont tell you what you can and cant do. I guess TJ thinks he’s the Sex Police.
As far as influencing children, what’s with the big drug commercials on TV during dinner. Do you want your four-year-old daughter asking, “What’s an erection, and what’s it mean if it’s four hours?”
The SEX police, they live inside of my head.
The SEX police, they come to me in my bed.
The SEX police, theyre coming to arrest me, oh no.
You know that talk is cheap, and those rumors aint nice.
And when I fall asleep I dont think Ill survive the night, the night.
“As far as influencing children, what’s with the big drug commercials on TV during dinner. Do you want your four-year-old daughter asking, “What’s an erection, and what’s it mean if it’s four hours?””
No kidding rabbit. They should run those commercials after 9:00pm.
The other one is tampoon commercials. When I’m eating dinner thats the last thing I want to hear.
Here’s my impression of the whackjobs;
Sure and now we have the dirty leftwing getting caught with this criminal Antoine “Tony” Rezko. Yep that guy. Both Clinton and Obama associating with this criminal.
Shoot …maybe it would be better if I copied it from a Fruitcake Website….
Hold on I’ll find one.
“As far as influencing children, what’s with the big drug commercials on TV during dinner.”
Turn the TV off during dinner maybe?
Seriously though I think drug commercials should go away. But are they that much different than say what you see on Entertainment Tonite?
“No kidding rabbit. They should run those commercials after 9:00pm.
The other one is tampoon commercials. When I’m eating dinner thats the last thing I want to hear.”
Summers Eve? Hello?
My God the Huffington Post that must be where these weirdo’s get their sh%$ from. What a bunch of gobble-gook.
Antoine “Tony” Rezko
Antoine “Tony” Rezko
Antoine “Tony” Rezko
Hillary is a criminal for associating with Antoine ‘Tony’ Rezko. Now I know it was just a picture but what the hell I’m a Fruitcake now.
“Then do away with all student clubs. All or nothing.”
I have no problem with the groups, but they should be funded by the participants not the whole student body
“Summer’s Eve products are designed to leave you feeling fresh and clean… whether you’re starting your day, winding down, or somewhere in between.
And because every product we make is clinically tested, they’re safe enough for your most sensitive areas.”
Put that on a Hallmark Card
“I have no problem with the groups, but they should be funded by the participants not the whole student body”
Ill rephrase. Fund them all or fund none.
Why should we trust the corrupt filled democratic party that is taking money from Antoine ‘Tony’ Rezko
This guy is much bigger then Abramoff. Wheres the press
Resign NOW Hillary Clinton
Resign NOW Obama
Resign, Resign, Resign, Resign, Resign
I don’t make a very good Nutjob do I
“I don’t make a very good Nutjob do I”
Its the thought that counts. But if you were on my varsity Nutjob team Id cut your @ss and put you on the JV.
Plus his name ends in a vowel. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. Rezko
Oh so now the Dems are taking money from the Mob…Oh that’s beautiful. The whole party is run by guys with vowels at the end of their last names.
Wheres the press.
“I don’t make a very good Nutjob do I”
No. you need to make stuff up. thats how it works.
Democrats are just paws of the Mob. Kennedy was sleepin’ with the same chick a Mob boss was……..You people better open your eyes and see whats happen to your party. First Rezko who next Tony Soprano.
Resign NOW Hillary Clinton
Resign NOW Obama
Resign, Resign, Resign, Resign, Resign
I don’t really care what willing people do in their own bedroom, but I must be getting old because I don’t even know what genderqueer, intersex, gender diverse pansexuals, or omnnisexuals are. I really don’t think I want to know either, and I certainly don’t want any of my tax dollars going to help promote them, if that’s the case. In fact, something like that, in my opinion, has no place in an institution of higher learning.
See how stupid that sh^% sounds, UofM, BM, Newbiz, JonR and others.
Thats what your post sound like to NORMAL people.
Ill rephrase. Fund them all or fund none.
No fund them all, If you want to participate YOU pay.
Here’s what Uof M said before the explosion:
Tell that to the athletes that get their trips, uniforms, and facilities paid for by student service fees. Tell that to the academic health center, which I personally have never used but would if I were seriously ill. Tell that to the people that charge me $100 a semester for a new football stadium that I will STILL have to pay to get into.
More than just a group for gays get funding from student services fees, and the reality is that the places that have the funding couldn’t operate without it.
Athlete’s: BS
Health Center: I believe this has merit
Football stadium: BS
I don’t care if it’s Gays, Kinkster’s Athlete’s, College Dem’s or Republicans.
Pay your own way
Pro sports too. If you whiners want a new stadium, raise the money yourself.
“Democrats are just paws of the Mob. Kennedy was sleepin’ with the same chick a Mob boss was”
Sam Giancana?
“Pro sports too. If you whiners want a new stadium, raise the money yourself.”
Do you live in Hennepin county?
Stay the f out of my pocket. I hate paying for something frivolous that I DON’T WANT. And I really don’t care about the economy in downtown Mpls. or Blaine. I don’t live there. It is of no benefit to me.
“Am I the only one amazed with the way this country is going? These clubs are acceptable but the Boy Scouts are not?”
The Boy Scouts are armed with razor sharp knives
No I do not live in Hennepin County or anywhere near Mpls. I stay away from Mpls. I hate Mpls.
No I do not live in Hennepin County or anywhere near Mpls. I stay away from Mpls. I hate Mpls.
That’s shocking. TJ hates something! Alert the media!
I do appreciate however, that you all keep the riff raff on your side of the river.
I don’t care for you either tanks; you’ve openly admitted to being a low life welfare sucking slob in the past.
“No I do not live in Hennepin County or anywhere near Mpls. I stay away from Mpls. I hate Mpls.”
“Stay the f out of my pocket. I hate paying for something frivolous that I DON’T WANT.”
Then no one is in your pocket. Its a COUNTY tax you moron. Its isnt costing you anything. Stay out too when its built then.
I believe you commented about taking welfare money and buying steak and lobster and s*it because you didn’t really need all of the money that was being funneled your way.
tanks, do you think maybe you should be paying some of that money back?
blahs, I have no intention of ever setting foot in that stadium.
Yep Sam Giancana. I know he’s dead, BUT SO IS DR. KENNEDY.
I think sam is secretly running the Democratic Party from the grave. Yep, sure that’s it.
Yeah tanks, you really should be proud of yourself for ripping off the taxpayers. Makes you feel real good doesnt it?
TJ and blah….blog timeouts
Hell no tiny; I’m just getting started.
“blahs, I have no intention of ever setting foot in that stadium.”
Then you do understand how none of your money has gone to build it and your rant was basically a big waste of time? Maybe if you had the facts straight you wouldnt be so pissed all the time? As it is YOU are acting like a Nutjob. You know, flying off the nadle without the correct info?
I find it hard to believe that some slob welfare load has the audacity to come on a blog with a holier than thou attitude and try to chastise someone else. YOU are the one that got knocked up OUT OF WEDLOCK and decided to rip off the system. Where was the father of your bastard? Oh, you told them you had no idea who the daddy was so you could collect from him too and he didn’t have to pay into the county. Yep, you had it made didn’t you?
“Hell no tiny; I’m just getting started. ”
Is your wifes thong riding high TJ? Gettin’ on your nerves is it?
4blahs, why don’t you just into the bathroom now and pop some of those zits?
Not EVERYONE in Hennepin County wants to pay for your stupid small minded self interest stadium either. NO ONE had a say in it. No vote. No nothing.
At least my wife can wear a thong. :)
And riding high looks good on her.
Mr. TJ, I think Ms. Tanks was just teasing you a little in a friendly, good-natured way. She does this with me too.
I think it’s best to talk about issues and not get mad at each other and say hurtful things.
But ya see blahs, my mental image of you and yours, well that’s not so good.
“At least my wife can wear a thong. :)”
If you’ve got enough time and a good enough sewing machine anyone can make a thong fit a rhino.
“Mr. TJ, I think Ms. Tanks was just teasing you a little in a friendly, good-natured way. She does this with me too.”
I think not leland. What I think is that Ms. tanks is a *itch that sucked money out of the system until she found some loser that actually worked for a living and made some decent money and then married the poor slob. Just another form of welfare but at least that way it doesn’t cost the taxpayers anything.
TJ did you miss a shock therapy session?
“If you’ve got enough time and a good enough sewing machine anyone can make a thong fit a rhino.”
That was so smart and profound. For a 5 year old.
“TJ did you miss a shock therapy session?”
Sub prime must have hit this poor b@stard hard.
“That was so smart and profound. For a 5 year old.”
TJ, if you’re not up to this level of blog fight, just say so. Ill understand, and then you can go back to drinking.
“TJ did you miss a shock therapy session?”
I get enough shock therapy from these liberal morons on this blog.
“TJ, if you’re not up to this level of blog fight, just say so.”
I would have to bring myself DOWN to your level of blog fighting and that’s a long way to go.
I had a child out of wedlock. I must be liberal too.
“For a 5 year old.”
“I would have to bring myself DOWN to your level of blog fighting and that’s a long way to go.”
Yeah. You’ve got talent.
I love it. You can tell when someones really getting pissed when thy leave out leters.
“I had a child out of wedlock. I must be liberal too.”
Me to and the little turd has his checkbook 500 dollars overdrawn. I thought college was supposed to make you smarter. I’m not seeing any signs of it after almost 4 years.
Oh did you guys know 4 years is no longer good enough to get a college diploma. You need to go 5…….
Let’s talk about the oil companies.
“I love it. You can tell when someones really getting pissed when thy leave out leters”
Or they may be drunk. Hey, its after five somewhere in the world right TJ!!
Hell Zappa was way ahead of these punky college kids

Ever had a golden shower GO?
Tiny,
I heard a lady on 60 minutes being interviewed on the sub prime mess last night. She said, “where is the logic in paying $3,200 a month for a 1200 sq ft home when the payment used to be $1500?”
The interviewer ased her, “Well isnt that what you signed on to when you signed your mortgage?”
She said, “Yeah, but that makes sense when values are going up!”
Excuse me you stupid idiot but where in the mortgage were you guaranateed risign propr. values?
He asked another poor sap “Didnt you look at what you were sigining. After all you were borrowing hundereds of thousands of dollars. Did you have a lawyer look at it?”
The idiot borrower said’ “I didnt really look at it that way.”
Excuse me but how were you looking at it?
Finally someone is putting some of the blame where it belongs.
“Ever had a golden shower GO?”
Once. It was self inflicted against the wind…….
The wind? I thought they taught you not to do that in college. Wasn’t there some song about that back in the day, too? Maybe they talk about that in the coo-coo club at the U, too?
“WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats will move to add to a $150 billion economic stimulus package rebates for senior citizens living off Social Security and an extension of unemployment benefits, setting up a clash with the White House and House leaders who are pushing a narrower package.”
Should get our checks by september now. Are the Democrates that stupid to hand the republicans a campaign Issue.
“The wind? I thought they taught you not to do that in college.”
Yep. I missed that day they had
“against the wind 101″.
But I was there for
“an electric fence 101″

Bob Seage taught me as much.
Okay, enough fooling around, Leland8 show yourself.
Only GO or Tiny or maybe myself would be quoting Croce.
“I heard a lady on 60 minutes being interviewed on the sub prime mess last night. She said, “where is the logic in paying $3,200 a month for a 1200 sq ft home when the payment used to be $1500?””
I saw that also. I thought it was pretty good. Finally, an article showing the borrowers have some blame in this too. The interviewer was pretty light on them though.
Against the wind
We were peein’ against the wind
We were young and strong,

Against the wind
Elle,
I wanted everyone on this blog that ever said a single time the borrowers got screwed to see that. Beer flew out of my nose when I heard her say that it wasnt fair now that the values are dropping. What the F is that? Or the guy that said he never thought about what he was doing and only was thinking about moving? Also what the F. And the nice middle class neighborhood with the foreclosures in Stockton. Goes a long way to proving my point that this is actually a middle class consumption problem and not a poor people getting screwed by the man problem.
Mr 4blahs,
I am not going to show myself.
Unlike Mr. G, I have indoor plumbing, and the bathroom has a door on it, which I close.
“Unlike Mr. G, I have indoor plumbing”
Leland, Soooo your a chick? I caught that “Plumbing on the inside” play on words.
“Do it light , taking me through the night
Shadow bloggin’ , baby you do it right
Give me more , drag me across the screen
Shadow bloggin’ , all this and nothing more”
Leland you shadow blogger. You’re going to screw up sometime.
“Only GO or Tiny or maybe myself would be quoting Croce. ”
Hey, whoa, that’s the song I was thinkin’! I didn’t just crawl outta the crib, here. I might not be as old as Socrates or something, but I have a couple years or so on me!
“Hey, whoa, that’s the song I was thinkin’!”
Well you can take me off the “are you leland” list and put rabbit on there.
I havent seen you quoting many classic rock tunes, so I made that assumption. Maybe YOU’RE Leland8?
4blahs-
I agree. My jaw dropped that those people were actually admitting to it. And I couldn’t believe how soft the interviewer was. It was ludicrous. I used to be a loan officer and also a real estate agent (when it was easy to be one). So many times, when going over the payment, I would ask if it was manageable, and the borrower would say yes. I never hid that information, or glossed over it, I made sure they knew exactly what they were getting into. In the back of my heard, I would be thinking “there is no way they can afford this”, but they said they could.
It really does come down to human greed. I liked how 60 Minutes also pointed out how the whole problem snowballed, from the borrower taking more than they can afford, to the guy bundling and selling the loans. Everyone got their fingers in the pie.
Bad… bad Leland 8…
The baddest advice on the food you ate!
Badder than Ol’ K-K,
Can’t believe the junk I sayyyy!!!

Funny, I imagine that was directed at you blahs. I’m still wondering why you claim to have a college education. Poor sap, you couldn’t spell if your life depended on it. My 3rd grader spells better than you do.

Thanks, L8. Vote for Weird Al Yancovick for prez and all will be better for the USA.
And don’t be dissin Phys Ed there,
TJ. What’s the average weight, now, in America? Quarter-ton?
“Didn’t Tanks out herself a while back?”
Permanently? Would be nice. She can dish it out but hides when she gets it back, lol!
“TJ. What’s the average weight, now, in America? Quarter-ton?”
I guess it depends on how many quarter pounders you consume.
The buzzer went off on the elevator at the Mall of America; 7000 weight limit, and there just weren’t that many people on the elevator. Go figure.
“Now my feelings have been hurt.”
You really should just be ashamed for not paying attention and not learning and wasting the taxpayers money for your primary education.
TJ,
“Oh, maybe you don’t need to be able to spell to get a degree in phys ed.”
“Now I get it. That’s why blahs likes these immigrants. They make him look smarter than they are.”
Keep talkin’. The more you talk the dumber you sound, so by all means continue. I dont even need to retort, you’re doing a much better job making yourself look like an idiot than I ever could.
Permanently? Would be nice. She can dish it out but hides when she gets it back, lol!
I think she just prefers rational discussion.

Mr. TJ, You are invited to my home for a meditation session and deep breathing exercises. You will no doubt get hungry, so I will prepare a nice dinner. Do you like lentils?
Do we get to breathe before eating?

They are.
Sure.

Pat Paulsen for president baby, Pat Paulsen
“Like this : “heavily subsidized right-wing trust-fund babies who wouldn’t be able to get that college education, much less find or hold down a real job, if it wasn’t for the family ‘hand-up’ handouts.”
Now what the hell does that mean? ”
It means that studies have shown that as education levels rise a person is more likely to vote Democratic, except for the well pampered kiddies who stroll through college on the parents’ dime and then adopt the Republican mantra of anti-welfare and self-sufficiency, otherwise best summed up as I Got Mine; Screw You.
When a party relies on convincing people to vote against their best economic interests, it’s best to target the less well educated by playing to their irrational fears of the boogieman.
Pat Paulsen, John Anderson, Gus Hall and Ross Perot are all worthy of consideration.
“It means that studies have shown that as education levels rise a person is more likely to vote Democratic”
Such as? I just took a straw poll and my study says you’re an idiot.
“When a party relies on convincing people to vote against their best economic interests”
maybe some people choose a different criteria in voting?
Also, the more I think about it, the more my financial interests tell me to vote republican. How does that fit into your plan? There seems to be a large portion of Republicans who vote that way based on economic principals.
” it’s best to target the less well educated by playing to their irrational fears of the boogieman.”
Like the Dems do with the medical insurance companies?
“the Republican mantra of anti-welfare and self-sufficiency”
Cabrini Green was such a wonderful sucess wasnt it DD?
“I went to private school. I wasted my parents money.”
And if you have a day job you’re apparently wasting your bosses’ money too. Unless you’re paid to hang out at the KK board all day, every day.
“Cabrini Green was such a wonderful success….”
I will take one kilo based on your recommendation.
“Cabrini Green was such a wonderful sucess wasnt it DD?”
It was a stupid idea to concentrate that much subsidized housing in a single development as they did there, and modern urban planners have learned from that mess.
Your point?
“And if you have a day job you’re apparently wasting your bosses’ money too. Unless you’re paid to hang out at the KK board all day, every day.”
You got me. Guilty as charged.
“Your point?”
Welfare doesnt mean Shangrila. But I get you are a die hard liberal who cant see the flip side of the coin that welfare doesnt always solve problems. High expectations has its place.
You rip rich kids for getting ‘welfare’ from their parents but seem to think govt subsidy is the key. You’re basically a hypocrite. If free money turns rich kids into bad citizens, what do you think it does to poor people? Makes them good citizens?
Truthfully DD, the credit crucnh means no one is borrowing. Im a banker so right now Ive got some time on my hands. This extra time pretty much started back in March. I hope we dont downsize.
The collection department will probably need to be expanded. Room to move around anyway.
“Welfare doesn’t mean Shangrila”
Finally a subject I understand. Let’s talk about Leader of the Pack, first.
It is time for this blog to transition into serious, intelligent conversation. I am signing off to expedite that process. Goodbye for now, blog friends.
BM says:
“Keep defaming me, and I’ll track you down through a subpoena to the StarTribune and sue you into bankruptcy.”
I think BM does a good enough job defaming himself without any help from us.
“Welfare doesnt mean Shangrila. But I get you are a die hard liberal who cant see the flip side of the coin that welfare doesnt always solve problems.”
Actually I was a reliable Republican vote for years until the crazies took over. (The crazies of the left scare much less than the crazies of the right, and for that matter, the crazies of the left are also much more politically impotent than the crazies on the right)
Hard as this may be for you to comprehend, I’m not a die hard liberal but a die hard capitalist. I don’t believe welfare always solves problems (much less create a “Shangrila”), and neither do I believe the magic of the unrestricted marketplace will do anything to mitigate social problems anymore than leaving one’s garden unattended and unfertilized will allow the flowers to take over.
“You rip rich kids for getting ‘welfare’ from their parents but seem to think govt subsidy is the key. You’re basically a hypocrite.”
You’ve got it backwards, it’s those who spend their lives subsidized by their families who rail against “welfare” who deserve to be ripped as hypocrites (and my comments were in relation to education levels and political identities, not attitudes about welfare). What “welfare” I do support is so that some kids born into the bottom of society’s socio-economic ladder have a fighting chance to break out and become productive members of our capitalist society (read: customers for our products and services).
Just because I relied on myself for everything I have doesn’t mean I’m for a permanent underclass in a developing US feudal system. It’s not hypocrisy, it’s good business.
Broke Back Mountain Lady
A successful rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she placed an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand. Two cowboys applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk.
She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk. He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching. For weeks the two of them worked hard and the ranch was doing very well.
Then one day, the rancher’s widow said ‘You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great. You should go into town and kick up your heels.’
The hired hand readily agreed and went into town on Saturday night.
He returned around 2:30 am, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher’s widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him.
She quietly called him over to her.
‘Unbutton my blouse and take it off,’ she said. Trembling, he did as she directed.
‘Now take off my boots.’ He did as she asked, ever so slowly.
‘Now take off my socks.’ He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots.
‘Now take off my skirt.’
He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the firelight.
‘Now take off my bra.’ Again, with trembling
hands did as he was told and dropped it to the floor.
Then she looked at him and said:
‘If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you’re fired!’

Dear Ms. Kersten,
. . .
Your article regarding the U’s student group is nearly filled with quotations from the Minnesota Daily article.
. . .
I find your actions to instead steal another reporter’s work and print it under the guise of your work to be the borderline of plagiarism.
. . .
In this instance I find your ethics to be less than desirable and that the Daily has a probable legal challenge against you and the Star Tribune.’
Excellent, catch, andgersgyllen.
And good luck with your effort to hold a hack accountable!
I’m glad to see some Minnesotans still have principles and standards.

Anyone else see this post today?
Hey BM buddy. How ya doin. Are you still going to have your lawyer beat me up? Can we be freinds?
Well Put Dan. I agree. For the most part.
“(The crazies of the left scare much less than the crazies of the right, and for that matter, the crazies of the left are also much more politically impotent than the crazies on the right)”
I disagree. They are both about one thing, manipulation. Period.
“I don’t believe welfare always solves problems (much less create a “Shangrila”), and neither do I believe the magic of the unrestricted marketplace will do anything to mitigate social problems anymore than leaving one’s garden unattended and unfertilized will allow the flowers to take over.”
There is a happy medium out there to be found. But Ill state this again, this “rebate” business is a joke. The garden comparisson is cute. Id say the Fed, SEC, OCC and the like are the gardener and fertalizer helping flowers grow.
“You’ve got it backwards, it’s those who spend their lives subsidized by their families who rail against “welfare” who deserve to be ripped as hypocrites ”
I know these people. They think everything they have is from hard work and dont understand the idea that we all start from different places. They are hypocrites. But not all people who have rich parents are this way, many, but not all.
“What “welfare” I do support is so that some kids born into the bottom of society’s socio-economic ladder have a fighting chance to break out and become productive members of our capitalist society”
Im all for making public education as cheap and avaiblable as possible. The govt should fund this over almost anything else.
“Just because I relied on myself for everything I have doesn’t mean I’m for a permanent underclass in a developing US feudal system.”
Exactly why I am in favor of a path to citezenship for illegal aliens.
“and my comments were in relation to education levels and political identities”
The idea that some self identified republicans vote against their economic interests means they are somehow foolish is insulting I think to those people. We can all decide how we want to vote and its condicending for you to assume you know better than they do, in terms of how to make they should make their choices. They may be one issue voters and that issue isnt economics. Also, a large segement of the republican party votes the way they do based almost entirely on economic benefit. Ive got enough money to have a benefit in seeing the GOP stay in power, yet I hardly ever vote GOP. I too vote against my economic intersts quite often. But I do so as a democrat. So in my mind, the poor people who vote republican and thus against their economic interests are no more foolish than rich (Im not rich) democrats who also vote against their economic interets. Both are most likely single issue voters who dont count their economics as the most important thing to them when casting a vote.
GSAHA,
I think BM is taking a little stab at satire with his fabricated post from “andersgyllen”.
Isn’t Anders Gyllenhal one of the Stib’s editors?
“the Republican mantra of anti-welfare and self-sufficiency”
Here’s the mantra of self suffiency.
I Got Mine, I’ll be glad to tell you how I got it.
I might even take some of mine and give it to you, If I decide to do so.
Screw You if you think you have a RIGHT to take it from me.
Why do liberals hate the concept of self sufficiency so much?
Oh, TJ, TJ. You are a sad, angry, bitter, old unhealthy man that the world would be better off without. I wish I had enough energy to pity you. However, I just put in a full day’s work whilst it looks like you put in a full day’s *itching and moaning about how you have it SO rough.
TJ says: Most of us just want to be left ALONE. We shouldn’t be forced to accept anything we don’t want to. By not accepting, it doesn’t mean we are rejecting. We just don’t want it crammed down our throats!
Oh TJ, then why, WHY do you bother us with your negativity?
“Exactly why I am in favor of a path to citezenship for illegal aliens”
Americans do lose jobs as a result of illegal immigration, but the “problem” does not lie with the immigrants, but of the businesses that hire them at a wage far below the real market value for that job.
Those companies should be the ones providing the path.
“Oh TJ, then why, WHY do you bother us with your negativity?”
Like Sgt. Oddball would say “You see what sending out them negative waves did”
Imagine the person in the cube next to you boinking someone on their desk during working hours.
I believe you probably do have to imagine what it’s like to work, and you would soon realize that your slippery slope of sexuality taboos has no real merit.
I believe you commented about taking welfare money and buying steak and lobster and s*it because you didn’t really need all of the money that was being funneled your way.
Then you would probably believe inaccurately, another new one for you.
January 28th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
tanks, do you think maybe you should be paying some of that money back?
I am, I’m a working mother of two, thank you very much and I pay my taxes. I would anticipate, now that I’m a contributing member of society, that those taxes would also go in part to help out others in bad situations.
find it hard to believe that some slob welfare load has the audacity to come on a blog with a holier than thou attitude and try to chastise someone else.
I sure hope I didn’t hurt your feelings. I must have touched a nerve here…
YOU are the one that got knocked up OUT OF WEDLOCK and decided to rip off the system.
A fact I never disputed. I’m sure you never made bad decisions in your teens, Saint TJ.
Where was the father of your bastard?
Letting the army pay for his schooling.
Oh, you told them you had no idea who the daddy was so you could collect from him too and he didn’t have to pay into the county. Yep, you had it made didn’t you?
That’s right, TJ! You sure know all the answers don’t you? Everyone: Your search for wisdome and tolerance ends here: TJ for President.
5 Minutes into the nightly News and theres Bill. It was “What did Bill say today”
Like I said before I think she would have been better off divorcing him. I just didn’t and don’t see him as a asset.
Why didn’t she?
Didn’t Tanks out herself a while back?”
Permanently? Would be nice. She can dish it out but hides when she gets it back, lol!
I wish I were Leland, but I’m not. I can do a pretty good imitation of him, though.
Oh TJ, you know you’d miss me if I left. Nobody to take out your rage on….It’d be so sad for you. Also sad news for you: I wasn’t hiding - I was working. Something you should look into instead of whining about the government. It’s a bit healthier. Maybe if you were a productive member of society, you wouldn’t feel the need to lambast others so they’d feel as badly as you do about yourself.
“I think not leland. What I think is that Ms. tanks is a *itch that sucked money out of the system until she found some loser that actually worked for a living and made some decent money and then married the poor slob. Just another form of welfare but at least that way it doesn’t cost the taxpayers anything.”
You know what they say, TJ. There’s someone for everyone….:)
Stay the f out of my pocket. I hate paying for something frivolous that I DON’T WANT. And I really don’t care about the economy in downtown Mpls. or Blaine. I don’t live there. It is of no benefit to me.
Translation: ME ME ME ME ME ME!!!!
I don’t care for you either tanks; you’ve openly admitted to being a low life welfare sucking slob in the past.
Don’t worry, honey, the feeling’s mutual. Although I do enjoy reading what ignorant things you have to say - you make me feel much smarter and much happier about myself. Thank you. As for my past “sucking welfare” experience: Yes, I have. Although I didn’t admit to being a slob, I will admit I used taxpayer money to become a productive member of society.
I’m not afraid of my past, present or future. I’m willing to admit the things that I’ve grown through and learned from. I’m sorry you haven’t learned compassion and empathy for those in need from your difficult situation.
So angry and so full of hate - why did you choose life for yourself after receiving a diagnosis of cancer?
“Oh TJ, then why, WHY do you bother us with your negativity?”

Hi tluck, I’m taking that as a compliment so thank you. There was a time in my life where I almost became embittered and would have played the role of victim but life is too short to be that angry.
At least Bush is finally going to address government waste. Probably too little too late as they say, but it’s a step in the direction of recovery.
Look tanks, I don’t have anything against you or those that try to improve yourselves by utilizing the system on a temporary basis. I get very frustrated with those that abuse the system and the government forces the rest of us to pay their way. You’ve earned the credit for doing the responsible thing.
Katherine-
I’ve been reading your column for months now, and generally, it’s content is timely, honest, and worthy of consideration. I have refrained from commenting previously, but this column is below you. It’s clear you are pandering. I thought you were a serious journalist; but now I worry that this column has turned into the E! channel. As a beacon of conservative values you should strive to stay “above the fray,” and promote conservative, Christian, American values. But just like John Grunseth, Larry Craig, Jimmy Swaggart and Ted Haggard before you, you have fallen into the liberal pit of slop. Please reconsider the direction of this blog before it is too late. My family will be praying for you.

I very much agree with you on this, TJ. I don’t advocate those who abuse the system either and it angered me very much to encounter so many that do.
I want people to understand that there are also so many people like myself, who made bad decisions and are looking to redeem themselves and need some temporary help. Yes we have a very helpful assistance program here, and it’s very easy to abuse but not everyone does. The fact is, and everyone knows it, the system does work for those who want to make it work. I don’t know how we can fraud-proof it or make it better than it is.
So why all the abuse? Why’re you taking your frustration out on me? Why the hell are you so unhappy, TJ?

Yes tluck, sorry. I’m not very good at accepting compliments. So thank you for the props!
I still make a daily effort to not be bitter about what happens to me because it’s so easy to slip and be bitter. If I say bitter one more time I’ll probably break some sort of record. Thanks again for the props, tluck and you have a wonderful night. Thank you for being so open minded. I do enjoy your comments on this blog though I don’t always agree. Looks like you had a lot of bad choices early in life!!
See I paid my taxes, I paid my dues, & now I need some assistance but I won’t be getting it because of red tape and resistance on the part of our wonderful government. Yes, I have hired an attorney, but that doesn’t shorten the battle time. The government wants to keep delaying and resisting until the person filing the claim has given up or died.
TJ and Ms. Tanks must sing together.
Here’s the song:
Ms Tanks:
Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking till I can’t go on
While you see it your way
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone
TJ:
Think of what you’re saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it’s alright
Think of what I’m saying
We can work it out and get it straight or say good night
Together:
Life is very short, and there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it’s a crime
So I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
We can work it out,
We can work it out
“You forgot to put Sucks at the end of that!”
You obviously dont know the twin tone years and are stuck on Runaway Train. Im the kinda guy who accidentally spills my beer on people who know the lyrics to that song at the shows.

Keep your eye out for Michelle tonight.
Earlier I was joking about the smoking of cannabis. Let me make it clear that I use nothing stronger than herbal tea which I purchased 3 years ago from Sam’s Club in a bulk quantity (I do not smoke it). I was just joking about marijuana with Mr. 4blahs.
I am concerned about young people and narcotic use. I would advise you young people that marijuana is not something to do. Someday you may be a pilot, or an xray technician, or a surgeon. So, it would not be good to be stoned doing that. You may become a college professor, or a musician, or President of the US, and maybe it wouldn’t much matter, but it is still best not to do it.
If there are some juvenile delinquents out there who look up to me as a role model, I tell you to turn to God and not to ganja.
Thank you.

Bush’s lisp is thick tonite. Did he have a cavity drilled or what?
I am almost ashamed to say I have monitored this stupid thread of dialog all damn day and there are a couple recurring themes I want to comment on:
1.
The first is Katherine’s recurring theme, reiterated ad nauseum over so many many posts, of PC-inspired moral decline at the U of M. I swear Katherine has written dozens of columns about the U of M and I can only remember one that isn’t sneeringly derisive. That was the recent one about the professor who figured out how to boost grain yields and saved 20% of the human race. The rest of her U coverage seems to be about how the institution is going to hell because they let kids explore being gay or bondage freaks or dance in condom suits or whatever. Who cares what silliness the institution lets its youngn’s indulge in if the research it supports saves 20% of the human race? Not to mention generating half the patents that make Minnesota’s companies more prosperous than any of its neighbors’? Why the constant flogging of the U, Katherine? Obviously flogging is on your mind at the moment….
2.
The second recurring blog theme I’ve been meditating on today is the tendency of some of this blog’s denizens to quote song lyrics. I have to give props to Tiny for delivering the one quote today that is at all topical (the Zappa one about golden showers). Well done, Tiny, The rest of the lyrics ya’ll have quoted are just tangents on tangents on tangents and amount to little more than chatroom wankery. Our culture is rich with S&M references and there are so many songs you could have quoted that would have been pertinent to today’s topic, like,
“Venus in Furs” by Velvet Underground (the most obvious and famous example)
“Whip it” by Devo
“Gagged and Tied” by That Dog
“Cool Thing” by Sonic Youth
“The Center” by Tonya Donelly (you have to listen close for that one)
Think again. Try harder. Don’t waste your precious keystrokes.
“Bush’s lisp is thick tonite. Did he have a cavity drilled or what?”
Come on AL don’t make fun of people, AL
