Al Sharpton Takes on the Latest Loose Tongue
Don Imus’ labeling of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed ho’s” was boorish and disgusting. Forgive my yawn, though, as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson once again trot out their media inquisition machine in hot pursuit of this buffoon.
It’s the classic Sharpton/Jackson modus operandi: Wait for a public figure to make a faux pas, and then pounce — using the opportunity to lecture the rest of us about “rampant, systemic racism in America” (and hopefully make a few bucks on the deal).
Funny, I don’t recall hearing Sharpton and Co. excoriating the rap singers who reap millions spreading Imus-type messages to a whole generation of young people. Many of today’s kids are falling over themselves to emulate the rappers’ thug life, which regards all women as “ho’s.” Sharpton might actually do some good if he took on rap’s toxic messages. But then he would have to point fingers at some in the black community. So it won’t happen.
Or Sharpton and his allies might use their bully pulpit to issue a call to arms against the epidemic of fatherlessness, crime and low school performance that afflicts many in black America.
Forget it. Expect Sharpton and Jackson to continue attacking the latest foul-mouth-of-the-month. That way, they can maintain the victim game — and never have to ask their supporters to look in the mirror for answers.
